Curious to know where you put your lantern in the shanty. I've put mine in the middle on the unstable floor. I've heard people talking about hanging it somehow. Looking for some good ideas.

This is my second year with the shappell and looking for any tips to making it more "roomy".

Mine goes on the opposite end of where I'm sitting.....my vex sits on a turned over bucket that fits on the floor between the holes......buddy heater in the corner but man that baby will cook you out of there if you put it on high.......

I've thought about what to do with a lantern and can't figure it out. But I would not hang it from the center support unless you somehow reinforce it. You wouldn't want your lanter and shanty to come crashing down on you.

Have yet to have a problem putting it on the floor. But, a recommendation is to make a saucer or some sort of base for it to sit in. The saucer could be used for something else along with the lantern.

Is there a cross member that goes across the ceiling. My DX has one and I guess I could hang it from there using some sort of home made S-hook.

The cross brace on my DX unit would be able to hold a lantern. The only problem I can picture right now would be on a very windy day when there could be to much sway or even a possibility of the shanty being blown over.

What I have done, is take the globe off of my latern, and covered about 3/8 of the globe, from top to bottom, with aluminum foil. This does two things, helps reduce heat on the backside of the latern, and also reflect light towards the back of the shanty. As you can see, I also tuck my lantern base under the the floor so that it rests on the ice. It is less likely to tip over if bumped or on extremely winds days when the shanty is a rockin'. I have never burnt a hole in my shanty (except for the two little spots that are covered by the black duct tape, which was the 1st and 2nd time I set my shanty up facing the wind.....bad idea) with this set up. I purchased a Shappell DX3000 two years ago, and that even provides me more room for that latern to sit, with less risk of getting close enough to the side to burn a hole. It seems to work for me, but I also run my latern at a very low setting for ample light, and use my DynaGlo portable heater for a main heat source. Tight Lines

I have the 4000, and two winter ago bought a bracket from Jay's. I clamps on the upper support and extends to the floor. Has hook extending out towards the center of the shanty to hang the lantern, lower down it has a set of crossbars that you can hang a dual purpose heater/cooker Mr. Heater from. Works great, things are organized nicely. Sorry, don't have a picture to show. Before that I hung the latern on a chain between the two lengthwise supports.

I hang mine from the center pole. Some rope and a couple of s hooks from a bungie and it hangs low enough that it is not in your eyes but lights up the floor, fishing poles, etc. and hangs high enough that you can retie without any adjustments. If you need to move around inside the 3000, just grab the rope and slide the whole setup from one end to the other. Never had any problems. Can't tip over, even if you bump into it.

When i was at work i took a small box and taped it up real good to semi waterproof it then cut a hole large enough to fit the propane bottle through ( kinda on the small side so its a tight fit and doesnt fall off when picking it up). I have a clam 2000 and had the same trouble.

I put mine right between my holes. After a short period of time the bottom of the lantern will melt in and it won't go anywhere then. It sucks if you're my fishing partner and don't have your own lantern though.

I use a couple of those cheap aluminum caribener(sic) clips you find at the checkout at Lowes, Home Depot etc. Just tie a couple to the center bars with some nice stout string and you have a good place to hang stuff, lantern, jacket, etc..

Replacing the zippers handles with O rings worked great. This made it easy to open with gloves on. Oiling the zippers keeps them from freezing. Stretching a bunji cord between the two polls on the inside behind the flip up floor doors works well. Then when they are in the up position slip the bunji in front of both floor doors. The bunji holds them up and keeps the wind from pushing them closed while fishing. For my lantern I cut two pieces of 1/2" thick plywood aprox 8" wide and 15" long. I set one piece on the plastic between the floor openings and kind of wedge it in and the second one i lean against the back wall in between the floor doors in a vertical position. This keeps the lantern or heater from rubbing up against or melting the wall material behind the lantern or heater. Also, drilling 4 holes on the outside (one on each corner) so when the shanty is folded up and you have put your equipment on it you can then stretch 2 bungi’s to keep everything kind of strapped down. * = holes

You can then bunji straight across or from corner to corner in an X to hold you stuff on the shanty while pulling it.

Just my 2 cents.
