What would be the best tip you would give a rookie trying to get into trapping Fox's and Yotes? Kind of know some of the basics but, I am really new to this.

bigbucksstop,
For some one new to Fox and Coyote trapping probably the best advice would be make sure your traps and setting equipment are clean and are kept safe from contact with any contaminating odors.
Starting your canine trapping adventure in the winter is a lot more challenging than in the fall. But with snow you will be able to see where the fox and coyote are traveling.
Don't get discouraged if you see fox or coyote tracks circling your set without getting caught. They will evidentually come into the set.
Be sure to properly anchor your traps with double re-rod stakes or cable anchors. If you use a drag, be sure to use at least 6' of chain.
Good luck and feel free to keep the questions coming.

Find a trapper to mentor you...learn all you can about both animals.
Don't listen to all the BS about what's the best lure, or bait -learn to set the right locations.
Don't skimp on traps or stakes or cables.
Have respect for the animals, trap hard and smart and abid by the laws, then help out other new trappers.
just my 2cents....

Dave covered the biggest points. The only thing I might ad is after a coulpe of snow falls take a couple of hours and go out and track a fox or coyote. You will learn more from the animals than you can learn from a book, video, or on-line.
Lastly, you are going to have many ups and downs don't give up ... when it starts to come together it will just be that much more sweet. Good luck.

I agree, learn all you possibly can about the animal you are after. Learn the habits and habitat. It is a good idea like stated above to track these animals to see what they "visit" and where they walk. The more you learn the better trapper you will be. It's alot like golf, you have to put in the time to fine tune your game and loose alot of the variables.

Well I've got them around two or three of my sets, but nothing yet only had them up for a couple days though. We are expected to get a bunch of snow though. when I set them we didn't have the snow should I change something or leave them the way they are? Also if I have stinky bait out, should I definately put it in the hole like the dirt sets?
