Hi Bird, can you explain to me the new system of drawing a bear tag the DNR has implemented this year.I've heard alot of talk and it gets quit confusing. What are a person's chances of drawing a tag with this new system? What is your opion on this change?

I can't really answer your questions on the new lottery because i'm still trying to find the new rules and reg. I'm sure they will be publised soon since in 4 months people will be able to apply.Soon as i find out the new lottery i will post it.

This yeare Bear hunting is a little different than last with the new changes. This year they have went to preference points,he or she who doesn't get drawn this year will get one preference point,and who ever draws a tag will start a zero.The percentage to be drawn will be different every year due to the amount of tags they will be issueing and number of people applying.My thoughts on this issue is that if you get a tag once in every 8 years you will be lucky.I think they should have left it the way it was.

But don't you think that somebody who's been applying for 20 years without success should have a better chance of getting drawn than somebody who's been lucky enough to get drawn 2 out of the last 3?

Well for one thing the lottery has only been since 1990 so that makes 10 and if the number of people keep rising in the drawing then you might say yes that its better because you get points every year.

Hopefully you are lucky enough to get drawn.Last year there where plenty of bear in the bergland district,in the spring i will know more about it once i start scouting.
