Fished a nice small piece of water in the NE LP this weekend and had good success on the rainbows. Friday I fished dry flies from 7pm - 9pm and landed three pretty rainbows, one of which was between 9 and 10 inches. I used only one fly, which was a size 18 little black caddis. There wasn't much hatching but this fly seemed to move the fish pretty well. Weather was hot and muggy, clear skies and light breezes. Stream water temp was 70 degrees, the color was slightly stained.
Sunday I fished from 7am - 10:30am with my son, both of us used worms. We caught about 20 chubs, and 4 rainbows, 2 for each of us. The biggest was one of his fish, at 8 inches. It was exciting because it was his first rainbow, plus he had a lot of fun pulling a dozen chubs out of one hole. Weather Sunday morning was about 70 degrees and muggy with overcast skies and light breezes. By the time we quit fishing around 10:00a.m. I was pouring sweat, since the clouds had cleared and the temp was shooting towards 90. Stream temp in the morning had dropped to 63 degrees, and I also found some cold seeps that measured in the mid-50s. Water clarity was slightly cloudy due to the rains, but not muddy.
Great weekend for fishing, especially after the heavy rains Saturday night/early Sunday morning. The stream level didn't come up too much, thankfully.
