I'm not sure if I am supposed to be asking questions about Canadian fishing in the forum, but here goes: I went on a fishing trip to Esnagi lake in ontario last July mainly looking for pike and a few walleye. The walleye fishing was phenomanal but the pike fishing was lousey at best. We caught a few but the biggest out of 10 fisherman was 30 inches.
A buddy and I want to break away from the pack that go to this outfitter every year and find some place new. Targeting pike.
Does anyone have any suggestions on an outfitter boasting high pike catches and big fish? Fly in only is ok. PM me if you want your spot kept secret.
Thanks

You are correct when you say BIG BIG pike. I have been the Lindbergs Reindeer Lake lodge but that was back in hight school when I didn't have to pay for it. We did the fly in and I guess I was not aware you were able to drive.
I will check into that. Thanks
Have you driven? How long a drive is that? With gas and lodging on the drive would it still be cost effective to drive and not fly?

I go to Canada every year fishing for pike we usually go around august. Pike fishing in Canada is by far the best fishing for pike we drive up we go around white river and just got from there lots and lots of lakes to choose from if you have a map we try new ones every year. had lots of good luck pikr from 24 to 33 is pretty common we have picked up a few big girls once in awhile biggest being 42
If you can find a place that has strict catch and release policies, you will catch some really big ones. I saw a fishing show where they were fly fishing in a Canadian Lake(I forget the name) and they were catching 36-44"+ all day long.
I know the harder the lake access, the bigger the Pike are up there.

MY advice for Big Ontario pike takes either $$$ and alot of it flying in to the best managed, newest-opened lakes (that's not me;)), or you gotta 'roll deep'. First drive until you can't afford to drive any farther (w/ gas and USvCAN dollar-I'm there now:yikes:, it used to be cheap!), Real 'ballers' :cwm27: fish north of the trans-canada and definitely OFF the beaten path. Then you gotta find water that's hard to get to and had NO lodges/camps camps on it, I use rivers to get to lakes, be prepared for portages, rapids, etc... GOTTA pack light, but have everything you need. I start packing Jan 2 (I go in may), ask anyone who knows me:lol:! From there it's all about timing, being there at the right time, picking the best lake type (meso, not too deep, mod fertile, WEEDY!!!) in the area and fishing in the right part of the lake @ the right speed, lure type/color matters little, IMO. Can't help you with all that, gotta keep some of my secrets:evilsmile, truth be told I fish primo water & STILL never contact the big ones:dizzy:, but I know they're there, and I'm gonna find 'em.
Good luck, nothing better in the whole world than pike fishing in ontario!
Let us know you do!

Don't waste your time to go to Totomanai Lodge outside Wawa for pike, too small and too far between. Owner is a real pistol, no customer service sense... We won't go back...

We go to Quetico or Wabakimi every summer and have some big pike in both parks, but Wabakimi is more remote and more expensive to get to. You can drive to an entry point in Quetico, but up in Wabakimi you need to be shuttled in, train in or fly in. Best luck can be found on hard to reach lakes, which requires fly in or many portages. I have not been to Woodland Caribou, but I have heard that there are big pike there too. PM me and I can give you some names of lakes we have had good success on. The video link is to a couple of nice northerns from Wabakimi.

Pine Portage. Is about 30 minute flight from Wawa. I fished it about ten years ago and we did not catch anything over 33" for the week, however the friend that I went with has been there many times and he usually catches a few each time about 40" with his largest being 44". They have tighter restrictions over the past 7 or 8 years and the walleye and pike fishing has been improving each season due to the new restrictions. Great accomodations, nice boats, and tons of wildlife. (Bears and Moose.) If money is not an issue go with the above mentioned lodges on Reindeer, Great Slave, Neulton (sp) Lake lodge. The In-Fisherman web page most likley has links to these premire locations.
