a coworker and I were talking about his coyote hunting that he took up last year. I asked him what do you do with a dead coyote. He said he hasn't gotten that far yet as he has only seen one while hunting. I thought that It would be neat to try it once or twice, but I cant shoot an animal if I have no clue what I would do with it after I shot it. So what do you do with a coyote after you shoot it?

uhhhhhhhh get it mounted...... skin it, dry it, sell it.... make a quiver out of it.... a crazy looking fur hat.... try practicing mounting something.... get it tanned and hang it on the wall.... there is tons of different things you could do with it... its really up to you.... i have a pic of a mounted one in my photos... they look pretty sweet mounted.. tons of different poses... the one in my pics mounted was the 1st one i ever called in.

Would you field dress it like a deer? Sorry for asking such lame questions, but I am just curious.

opps, sorry didnt see you guys comented on this.....

to answer the skinning question, no you do not field dress it like a deer, and as stated above there is a coyote or fox skinning sticky thread of how to properly skin a coyote... and i believe its done by NC and he is pretty much a pro so he knows what he is doing... i thought the pics were gone though but i dunno.. you can still read it and know what he is talking about....

as far as the coyote mount... the mouth being open and the stand its on were each 50 bucks.... so there is 100 but if i would have left the mouth shut and had a different stance it was only 300!! which is pretty good.... i called around to a lot of places and he seemed to be the best and never tried him before.... his name is Jeff Simons out of folwer and he does a damn good job and will mount everything and anything... he is a trapper himself so he knows how to mount a coyote..... his greyfox are also outstanding!!!! i cant wait to trap one and get it mounted.....

as far as this coyote that got mounted it was the 1st coyote i ever called in.... i was sitting on a fence row with the wind in my face so if a coyote was going wind me he would have to go out in an open field and i had my 22-250 for longer shots but since i couldnt see to far in front of me i had my shotgun with #4 buck and he came within 12 yards and i pounded him.... man what a rush... and i had spent 3 years before this trying to get one with no luck so i had to get it mounted :)

glad you guys like it....

oldgraybeard...... post those pics when you get them of your coyote!!! where did you get it and with what?.. cant wait to see it

Hunterhawk, there's a pic of him in my photo gallery taken right after I got him. I mouse squeaked him in using the back of my hand and sent a XX78 2213 through him. I'll post up new pics when he's done.
