I got handed a deer season yote and am very new to skinning, I got the tail about 1/3 peeled down by hand and tailbone pulled off the animal. the rest skinned out fairly good for my first one but the tail is still an issue, I have read alot of the posts but nothing covers this area, any help out there? its on ice waiting for fleshing this weekend.

You should use a clothes pin,Plastic or wood, the ones with the spring on the clothes pin and has a couple of circle holes in it, use the largest hole when its on animal the tail is skined about a inch or so just enough to get a clothes pin and a hand on the pin
put the clothes pin around the tail and squeeze it with enough force to keep it from slipping then pull the tail bone with the other hand, it will slide right off if its not frozen
if the tail bone pulled off have some one pull the bone with pliers while you hold the clothes pin but do it slow, do it slow either way

Thanks Steve!!! I got it out with a little effort, used a pair of vise grips to clamp the tail bone to a board, no one wanted to help with this little project for some reason?? anyway I skinned it down about two inchs, and I had made a puller after looking at pictures of them :) I also soaked the hide in water for about two hours before clamping it down and it pulled out real slow,, Thanks Again.

Good, Most people try to skin it all the way out and end up with a half of tail, that was a good Idea soaking the tail, when they are fresh within one day or less they come out easy but thats a good trick with the soaking on a 2 or 3 day dry tail. The clothes pin works on every thing with a furry tail ,tree rats, coons etc, I have used two small sticks gripped on the tail bone and it will work also
Can't believe people didn't jump at the chance to learn how to pull a Coyote bone out of the fur, whats this world coming to

next i gotta work on my ear turning tech,,, was pretty ugly job,, fleshing wasnt that great either,, will go back after the neck and face after its salted for a while,,,, the rest is ,, well ok for my first i think, i have only done whitetails till now, only fleshing the hides and salting them.
thanks again for the tip it worked well, someone suggested soaking the tail before pulling it, but then lightly smacking it some with a mallet to further loosen it up some was also mentioned,, i wanted to wait on that one
thanks again, maybe some other reader will benifit from this post also. us rookies gotta learn some where,,:)
