View Full Version : Need new release
Over the weekend I pulled out my bow for some target practice and my release was gone. Tore the house, basement, garage and car apart but can't find it anywhere - must have dropped it in the woods the last time out. It was a Tru-ball, velcro strap with a caliper that gripped two buckshot-sized balls attached to string and I really liked it. (I've had it 7 years and it must be discontinued since I don't see it on the Tru Ball site.) If anyone has an extra release they want to get rid of please PM me. Recommendations would also be appreciated.
Thanks,
JME

I tried my friends TRU ball and didn't really like it compared to my Scott Mongoose. Give a Scott a try if you go shopping for a new release. But you know, once you get a new realease the old one will show up!

I've had the same Scott rope releases for over 12years and other than changing the rope loop they are as bullet proof as an anvil! Time to replace the straps though. The buckle type will give you more consistancy of fit versus the velcro, quiter too. Their prices are reasonable as well; at least compared to Carter which is the only other choice IMO.

I went with a Bear Paw glove release a couple years ago..love it, made by TruFire. Before that I had a Trophy, simular ball bearing style. I still carry that as a backup, but notice with the glove style I can hold higher poundage a longer amount of time. What I like about both is the strap..not velcor, no noise, no belt buckle style...just a strong pull strap, quick, quiet and strong! And the padding on the bottom left of the release acts as a nice leverage support for those deer that take thier time to gove you that broadside shot.....are there better 3-d releases...probably, but this is bullet proof. Wait, no scratch that..someone's going to go out and shoot one with thier 06...never mind I said that...hahaha

Like the looks of that Jeff. With the fleece lining I imagine you shoot it gloveless right?

You could, I where a light pair of black micro fleece gloves just to keep the wind off my hands and cove cover...but out side of weather and concealment..sure.

I have been shooting the same Scott Mongoose for about 10 years. Great release. I may play with a Thumb trigger release during the offseason though. You cannot go wrong with Scott.
