Does anyone know for sure whether or not you can use a centerfire rifle for damage control yote hunting in the "shotgun zone"? The rule book is pretty vague. Thanks

you can use a rifle as long as your not hunting at night. the center fire only applies to deer hunting.

Ive never done any coyote hunting before so this is going to sound really dumb, but for daytime damage control hunting do you need to wear blaze orange?

Make sure you check your local ordinances as well. Where I live they have a local ordinance that makes it illegal to discharge centerfire rifles so you will want to check that out.

I called the dnr in plainwell last fall on this topic and he told me that you may use a center fire rifle during daylight hours only throughout the entire season except nov. 15-31. during that time centerfires are not permitted to be carried in the field. The phone for plainwell dnr is 1-269-685-6851.

I went to the DNR field office in Bay City this morning and they said the same thing. Thanks everybody for your input.

What are you calling damage control????
Damage control is used during the off season to be able to shoot said coyotes. To do so the damage needs to be prexisting. This time of year anyone with a small game or fur harvester can hunt them. Well excpet for the wolf clause that shuts down coyotes from november 15 to 30 in zones 2 and 3.

Can't have a rifle in the field Nov 10 - 14 to hunt with either. Page 9 in the guide. DNR rarely "tells" you this one but know of one that's been nailed on it.

AND zone 1
Pwog,
My bad I meant 1 and 2. We can still shoot them here in 3 during the firearm season.
