I just made the switch to 1 pin (from 3) in preparation for next season. I sighted the pin for 24 yards so now at 20 yards I'm about 1 inch high and at 30, about 2 inches low. I'm really happy with this becuase most of my shots are 20 yards or less anyway.

Wanted to get some opionions, especially if you've made the switch as well.
Since I've never hunted with one pin I'm a little apprehensive.

i did the same thing last year. i shot over a 10pointer when i knew i was on the right pin and at the last second changed to my second pin and put the arrow right over his back.after that i went with 1 pin.

Why isn't zero pins an option?

Sorry, didn't mean to exclude anyone...I've been shooting a compound with sights so long that I sometimes forget there are other options (even though my Dad started me with a stick bow). No offense intended.

Not sure what bow you shoot, but if it is newer you will be very surprised at how little movement there is from 30 yards and under if you sight in from a treestand/elevated platform.

I picked up a new Diamond two years ago and love it! It is on at 30 yards, 2" high at 10 yards and a little higher at 20 yards. 2" low at 35 yards. All my shooting is from a ladderstand ion the yard. No more tree stand mathematics!

I've been shooting 1 pin for about 5 years. My setup shoots very flat from 15 to 30 yards. Arrow speed is 295 fps.

Holy cow!! Must be coincidence this thread is started. I went from 2 pins up to 3 pins when I got a new sight last year (Mike Waddell Extreme) and now probably going to go back to 2 here real fast. Since I have went to 3, I'm only 3 out of 8 on hitting the deer. Prior to that, I hadn't missed a one with the old set-up. I currently have them set at 20-30-40. I thought going to 3 would dial me in at all ranges but all it did was cause me confusion when equating what pin to the estimated yardage of target (in this case deer). I use a range finder to range reference points around my stand and I practice from a tree stand in my back yard. (The range finder could be a bad thing too....when you rely on that, you tend to lose the art of instinctively judging distances)

Maybe it's just me but after using 3 pins for a spell, I felt more confident at 2 pins. With the old set-up, 1 pin set at 20 or 25 yards was good from the stand out to approx 30 yards. After that, I knew I had to hold a little high out to 40 where the 2nd pin came in. I've only shot at two animals out past 30, a deer and a caribou. I got them both.

For my simple, backwoods mind, it wasn't rocket science with a 2 pin set-up. Even my old bow I used back in the mid-1990's was a 2 pin-er. I have been shooting at 80lbs since 1994 and the arrows are running fairly flat downrange. Wednesday I missed a small 7 pt. Tonight was the last straw, I missed the same doe twice at 24 and 26 yards. :dizzy::rant::rant::rant::rant: No mas for this kid......I shouldn't have messed with a working set-up, back to two pins for me.

3 pins. I like to mark my yardage before I get in my tree stand.14 paces =10 yds. Works for me.

3 pins. 10,20,30 yards. Any more then that is just crazy and confusing. I tried the 1 pin thing and didn't like it.

I hunted 1 pin on a slider for a number of years.

This year the CBE with 5pins for 3D was setup already...I out Bheads on and smacked a few to shave fletch and ruin an arrow in 3 shots and went hunting.

20-30-40-50-60.

Not ecstatic about my sight picture but I shoot both eyes open anyway and haven't had any issues.

This season I switched from a 3 pin sight to 1 pin. My goal was to simplify everything and I accomplished it with just 1 pin. I feel much more confident with the new set up. Just my opinion but with bow hunting less is more.....

A buddy of mine went out to Iowa and missed a 150 inch buck because he got buck fever and put his 40 yard pin on the deer by accident instead of his 30. Now he only has 1 pin.

I use three pins 10yds, 25yds and 40yds. If you don't have a range finder I highly suggest getting one. It's a great investment. I have hard time judging distance past 20yds. The range finder has helped me, with selecting the right pins!

1 pin for me most shots are close and personal ;)

5 Pins........... Trophy Ridge Flatliner. The vertical pins eliminate ALL the clutter in the peep. I also agree with the use of a range finder. Without fail, I always range objects the first time at the time of putting up a stand. I've been known to also put out my own objects, which could be a small piece of tracking tape to mark ranges.
Excitement usually accounts for the use of the wrong pin. What's wrong with that? ;)

On my Switchback I have a 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60.

On my X-Force I have a 20, 35, and 50.

They are mostly there for 3D, target shooting and showing off for friends. I have never had to shoot over 20 yards yet to take a deer with a bow.

One pin is what has always worked for me. I think in most Michigan hunting situations 40 yards is a max. The norm is often 15-25 yards. With the speed of most bows these days one pin can do the job. I tend to sight the one pin in for 25 yards, and practice at all distances from 5 to 40 to mentally get the picture of were to aim at each distance. Randomly shooting from different distances helps with also judging distance. It seems for me that i have to be even more carefull at the 10-15 yds ranges or i can shoot high. I even shoot this way in an indoor archery league were i have to mantaine a certain gap at very short distances on small bulls. After a while it becomes second nature to judge the distance and remember the sight picture from practice. Now if only i could spell .

I have a 1 pin HHA sight on my LX and a 5 pin converted to 3 pin Spott Hogg Hogg-It on my Switchback XT. I use to be a 1 pin hunter, but in the last few years I have been still hunting more with a bow, and I'm finding the value in having a couple of pins for the longer yardages.

I have been a "one pin" shooter for many years, but I switched to a Sword Twilight Hunter this fall. It has 4 pins. I really like this sight. I do no tlike spending the time to change a one pin slider for longer shooting, especially when I am hunting out west.

I have 4 pins but I only use 3. 20,30, and 40. At 10 to 20 yards I aim at the same spot. I also use a range finder. I have never been confused on which pin to use. I do not use the 4th pin because I refuse to shoot at anything over 40 yards, my accuracy drops at about 40 and I would rather wait for a shot I am comfortable with than miss a nice buck and not see him again.
