Just when you thought it was over. Looks like Made In Detroit is still trying to get the project going again. I surely hope this plan does not pass.

Why don't they leave well enough alone!! They have been rejected how many times before, so what makes this time any different. I get so furious eveytime
I see the words Made in Detroit. It even hurts me to type the name  Its bad enough we have to loose our hunting ground to subdivisions on the mainland, now this stupid group is trying to ruin our only marshland on the Detroit River and effect the best walleye fishery in the US. I am all for growth and prosparity but there has to be a limit.
Why not for every new subdivision they construct one has to be torn down and plant a forest. If they want to disrupt our marshlands, tear something down and replace it with the EXACT amount of marshlands. Pretty soon if we want to live in the country we will have to move to the U.P. Anybody in the U.P. know of any good automotive design jobs up there  I could go on about how I hate this Made in Detroit thing but the more I talk about my blood pressure just sky rockets. Plus I don't want to use that kind of language in this forum. The only thing I want to say is " Made in Detroit, change your name to Stay in Detroit and DO just THAT". I am sure I speak for alot of the sportsmen out there. Thanks for letting me vent guys and gals.

With the mile upon mile of burned out houses, and vacant lots in the stretch of waterfront or canals from the Jefferson plant to Grosse Pointe, why not redevelop that area instead of ripping up the last marsh on the river? There's certainly the demand for new homes in that area.

Tiger and Alex,
Yes, that is the island. I am very familiar with that whole island and marsh. If that is the case the only hunting in that area would be in a layout boat 450 feet from any occupied dwelling.
I have been hunting that marsh for years.
I have met alot of River Rats growing up in this are. I still love hearing the old hunting stories back in the days of Kalash and Hy Dahlka. Hy Dahlka's mailbox still has his name on it. Seems like his daughter never took it off after he died. There is alot of history in this area. I would hate to lose it to this Project.
Here is a little bit of trivia for you guys. Did you know that Celeron Island was once owned by John Kalash's family?
Are you guys planning on attending the meeting next month?
According the the article everyone is welcome. I am.. It is a given since I live less than a mile from the marsh.
With that in mind lt's see if we can get some more support from members on this site. Look at all of the members in here that Handline or Hunt the River. If you plan on fishing for walleye here in the future you had better make sure you attend the meeting. The Marsh and River could use your support.

Howdy guys, I just got off the boat tuesday, and its good to be home.
These people(made in detroit) just dont seem to give up, do they. I think if you look at there track record theyve failed at everything they have started or tried to start. We deffinatly need to keep abreast of this issue. The more of us involved the less likely they can get this thing off the ground.
As a teenager in the 70"S I spent countless hours in this marsh carp shooting, bow hunting for rabbits, fishing , dip netting in the small canal and generally just hanging out. I realize that we were probably tresspassing all the time but we werent bothering nobody and nobody ever bothered us. HEY, it kept us off the streets and out of trouble. dont get me wrong, I dont promote tresspassing of any kind, and would never do it today, but we were kids and heck we loved the outdoors and nobody ever ran us off this property.
So anyway the point is, we must continue to fight this thing to the bitter end. no matter how long it takes. this is a very important piece of property to the downriver area.

I think some people should start living a little more reasonably I'm sick and tired of tring to go hunting and have some newly developed house right where a good rabbit hunting spot used to be. These people drive me crazy with there 1 or 2 acre parcel's. Come out screaming at you if you even come close to there property.
They can't find any where else to live?
When I was sixteen we could hunt within 20 -30 minutes of the house now we have to drive at least an hour to hunt.
Not to mention to run beagles I used to be able to walk to some of my running spots. Not anymore now we have to drive and you never know when someone is gonna call the police for letting A vicious:confused: beagles run in the wood's.
What a crazy notion.

RivRat,
I will be attending the meeting next month as is Firetiger.
Like I suggested to in this thread. The marsh needs more support from sportspeople on this site. There are alot of people who enjoy fishing and hunting in the area. I hope they do not turn their backs on this one. We shall see just how good this site is, real quick.

goosawa,
What is the date of this meeting, I will be going back on the ship around the 23rd of august. If I'm still around I will deffinatly plan to attend and have a few of my hunting and fishing cronies in tow. Even if I'm not around I am going to get the word out to all the sportsmen I know.

RivRat,
The meeting is on August 19th, 2002 and starts at 6:30 pm at the Gibraltar City Hall. Read the URL that I posted which started this thread.
I really do not want to get in too deep with the Politics. But, the congressional districts in this area have been changed due to reapportionment. Conyers and Kilpatrick's districts will extend into the downriver area. I would bet you they would love nothing more than see this project move ahead.
I dread losing the support that Dingell offered for residents downriver. I dread even more what Conyer's and Kilpatrick may bring to the table.
Firetiger, Send me your Telephone number again via PM. I have been trying to call you and I cannot get through.
Want to make sure I have the right number.
