Hello-

I am new to this site and new to Michigan. My family and I relocated here in August from Iowa. I am an avid coyote hunter, using an electronic call. I have used about every call available and finally came up with one that consistently works. It is a call from Wildlife Technologies. Anyway, being new to the state and not knowing anyone, except for co-workers, I am hoping that I may meet a hunting partner or two who may like to share techniques and general hunting B.S stories! I know deer season is on right now, and have seen alot of bucks strapped to vehicles on I-96. Congrats to all who have been successful, but maybe in the snowy months to come? I am an avid gun collector , and enjoy my small caliber "wildcat" rifles. I do my own reloading and am a wealth of information in that area. I am not at all familiar with areas in Michigan and would welcome any invitation and/or input as somewhere to go and hunt coyotes. Looking forward to being a member here at Michigan Sportsman!

XHawkeye, Welcome to Michigan. The Brighton area has some pretty decent state land available to hunters. As for sharing ideas, I'm full of info on how to hunt coyotes for four or five years without ever having even seen one LOL! Welcome again.

XHawkeye, The Brighton area has quiet a bit of state land around it and I do know there are good numbers of yot's, almost hit one with my truck about a month ago, going through some state land on the west side of the Brighton Recreation area. I have friends that live in the area and here Coyots howling at night all the time. Some guys do pretty good snaring in that area also. Stop at the DNR office on Chilson road and pick up a map of the state land. There is also the Island Lake Recreation area very close to you...Dave

Just remember you can only snare on private ground Jan 1 to march 1st.

Please read the regs in the hunting and trapping guide.

Welcome xhawk. I love yote hunting even though i have only shot 1. I too enjoy reloading. I have never hunted in Iowa:(, but i would guess that its going to be a bit more of a challange here in MI.

Windnots-
I know how you feel when it comes to hunting 'yotes and not ever seeing one. Like I said, "I have tried almost every call on the market" with little to no sucess. The first time you get one or a pair to come in is as heart pounding as a giant buck coming under your stand! I have spent thousands on this sport, just to learn where I am at today. I am infatuated with hunting them. What a crafty animal!!! I Iowa, where there are few trees and the land is relatively flat, I now have a call where I have personally seen them come in in seconds! Too close to get them in a rifle scope. I have also seen them coming from 3/4 to a mile off. That gives a person plenty of time to judge their path and get ready for a shot. I use a 220 Swift in a Ruger 77. Never had one get up from that round! It is great to see there are fellow "yote hunters out there. I appreciate the "Welcomes" and replies.
