No centerfire or rimfires in zone 3. You can hunt squirrels with a shotgun.

ok, thought i would ask. Every year my uncle invites his in laws to our family farm. The farm is 120 acres and it would be 4 people hunting it, but when he invites his in laws in turns into 12 people total:yikes:. Normally i have one side of the road to me and my father (approx. 20 acres) Well, tonight i found out that one of his in laws was going to be on the 20 acre side :smile-mad(approx 50 yards from where i was going to sit).
I don't gun hunt for deer (i take my bow out during gun season) so i don't care that much about the opener. If it was legal i was just going to sit there with my 223 and try calling for yotes or plink squirrels.
O well, looks like I'm not getting to the squirrel woods to bright and early.

speaking of hunting squirrels, i got home after hunting this morning and i saw a squirrel in the garden, so i went inside, got 2 rounds of birdshot, he took off running and stopped, not a smart move on his part:D.
mmmmmh, squirrel

You can hunt deer with a bow during firearm season.
You have to follow firearms rules---Hunter orange for one. Your combo tags are only good for bucks during firearms season just like firearms hunting with them.

You do know that you should reread the hunting guide.
As already stated, you can hunt deer during firearms season Nov.15-Nov 30th with a bow. You can only shoot bucks with antlers unless you possess a valid anterless tag for that DMU. Antlerless tags are available for purchase from the any license vendor from Aug. 16th until they are sold out by DMU or until the end of the season which ever comes first. I can tell you right now if you do not posess a public or privateland anterless tag for the DMU you are hunting by now most likely you will not be able to obtain one.
Anterless tags are sold by DMU's which basically are for counties. If you are wanting to purchase one they are a one per day purchase and you can only purchase a total of 3 for the season. That is not 3 for each DMU, it is a total of 3. Some DMU's have acreage restrictions meaning you must be hunting 40 or more continous acres. That does not mean you own or are leasing 40 acres or more. It means you must be on a 40 acre parcel. A road does not break up a 40 acres parcel according to how the law is written. Your combo tag for archery season does not allow you to take anterless deer during firearms season.

That would depend on what part of Zone 3 he is in. If he is north of the shotgun line then he would be fine. But if he is south of the shotgun line then he would have to use a shotgun.
Below is the link to the zone map. You will notice part of Zone 3 is in the rifle zone.

Being your from Mason, I will have to guess and say no you may not hunt with the rifle during deer season. Mason is in the Shotgun Zone.

May I suggest you go out and get a guide or go here- http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10371_14724---,00.html and actually read the rules before you break one. Just some friendly advice-ignorance of the law is not a good defense.

This is one of the problem with Michigan. We have the Zone 1/2/3 line, the north, middle and south waterfowl zones, shotgun/rifle line and the ZZ turkey line. It all gets confusing after a while. Then throw in the trout fishing regulations.
Then compound that with all the exceptions to the rules, like the no 22's in the shotgun zone during firearms deer season but they are OK in the rifle zone.:dizzy::dizzy:
It is not surprizing that there is so much confusion in the ranks

Thanks for the help as far as my question went. I didn't think i could since I'm located in the Southern part of zone 3, but i couldn't find the correct info on the DNR's page.
That is very true multi, so many zones for different species.
