Hi All,
I tried my first opossum today. It was a huge male. I fleshed him with the help of Hal Sullivan's book about fur handling(great book and dvd). I think I removed most all the fat and I never cut through. My question is......is it ok to see the little black roots in areas. Mostly around the front legs and the belly. I was real gentle and am not sure I could do it much better. I know that is bad on most animals, but is it possible to flesh opossums without exposing some roots? Or is that normal?

Thanks,
Brian

Thats the same result I get when I flesh them, so i think that would be the norm. I am keeping all the ones I get this year. I have an 8.00$ average on them last year at NAFA...I got about a 15 lbs one the other should fill a good coon stretcher.

One tip on fleshing Grinners is that there hide is very thin. Take your time and they should come out great. They dry very nice and oil free. good luck trapping.

Keep up the good work on grinner and its nice to see some people putting them up with pride along with the other animals they catch.
