Any electricians out there? I have a call in to the inspector, but he hasn't called me back yet. Thought I'd see what anyone here could offer.

I have a cabin in progress that will be run off a generator as utility power is miles away. I need to run power from the generator to the box. I have the cabin fully wired to code to a 100 Amp panel (as required by the inspector) and I plan on getting a power inlet box for the generator. The generator is 6.5 kW with a 30 amp fuse and connector.

I was planning on using a 10' 10-gauge power cord from the generator to the inlet box, then 10 gauge wire from the inlet box to a ouside disconnect with 100 Amp fuse. Then from the disconnect box to the panel with #2 SER Aluminum.

Is the disconnect required? Is it recommended? Is this size SE cable required by code? Obviously it is way more than required based on my power generation limitations, but I can understand that it may be the min for entering a residence. Also, I was going to run the SE cable in conduit to the disconnect. Is 1 1/2" big enough? I have a chart with conduit sizing vs cable, but it is in the cabin up-north right now...

i dont know most answers, but 1 1/2 is big enough for 3 #2's and 1#4 copper
