I hunt stateland and stay on stand all day the first three days, I was wondering what everybody snacks on in the woods. Day 1 cold pizza and always have honeynoat granola bars. I tend not to eat red meats around deer season cause brotherinlaw believe deer can smell a meat eater or a predator, he claims you'll see more deer if you do?

I also hunt stateland and I normally stay in the stand all day the first day, this year I'm not sure yet with only a Doe Tag left. As for a snack its usally just sometype of snack bar and a water. I eat a big breakfast and that will hold me until I get out of the woods after dark.

They may be able to smell an animal, but it has nothing to do with what the animal eats. You will not see any less deer if eat meat around deer season. So, eat a steak and go hunting.

My clothes sit around collecting smells from bacon grease, smoke, and a damp smell we call "cabin smell". I don't know how you can avoid this unless you leave all your clothes outside and sit around naked until you leave for hunting and get dressed outside. I think worrying about it is overrated. Most deer during gun deer season are running or walking quickly away from someone else.

I take a thermos of coffee out with me and spaghetti-o's w/ meatballs (I think the deer like them cause I always seem to have one come in when I am eating). I also take some chips and beef jerky to snack on throughout, and a couple of sodas.
I also smoke while in my blind. I think worrying about deer smelling you is overrated, or at least in the area I hunt, where there are lots of farms and the deer are used to "people" smells.

I usually over do it, but this year, just some water and a peanut butter/jelly sandwich.

I can't make the opener, but i'm heading to the woods the next day....after I drop my daughter off at school. I hope I don't peece anyone off on the Stateland walking in around 9-9:30am. It's pretty much all foot trails to the area and then I have to sneak in about 100+yrds to my stand.

I take homeade granola (cheap and easy to make), candy bars, crackers, meat and cheese for lunch, a couple hard-boiled eggs. Plenty of carbs, protein....everything you need.

I buy a bucket of KFC crispy chicken the night before. Ziploc it up and put in fridge. Nothing better than chewing on a cold leg or breast while in stand. I've done that the last three years.

I take hot apple juice (hoping the apple smell will attract something) to drink, sliced apples, a couple turkey sandwiches, Jolly Ranchers and maybe an energy bar. I avoid a big breakfast, because I don't want that call from Mother Natural.

I leave my clothes outside to avoid getting the greasy, smokey smells on them.

State land here as well and I also stay on stand dark-to-dark on opening day. For snacks I bring an apple or two, some water and some candy that I rob from the kids' Halloween stash. Might bring a PBJ sandwich this year. I take the candy out of the crinkly wrappers and put it in paper towels to cut down on the noise. If I remember I slice up the apple so that you don't get that loud crunch when biting into it.

I've heard the thing about avoiding red meat but don't really buy it. However, I do all I can to reduce my scent by washing clothes in baking soda, drying outside, storing in plastic bags, spaying down EVERYTHING and hunting downwind. I don't put my hunting clothes on until I'm about to walk into the woods. After driving to the parking area I spread out an old shower curtain liner so I can stand on it without getting my feet wet/dirty. After stripping down to to my U-wear I pull out the hunting clothes, put them on, spay myself down and then hit the wood. Fortunately I'm usually the first one there so no one sees the show!

There's wisdom in that statement

I eat a good breakfast and then I hunt all day opening day. I just stuff a bottle of water in my cargo pocket with a pastrami sandwich or something of that nature. I usually throw in something else to snack on too. Sometimes those little donut gems, sometimes granola bars, and sometimes I take along a can of smoked oysters too.:)

Pack a small back pack with some venison jerky, a rost beef sandwich , and a power aid. In the morning I will take my vitamins, and drink a 5 hour energy shot to stay alert.

Poptarts, water, bottle of pop, sandwiches

I don't like to eat a lot of loud food, like bags of chips or something like that. Those poptart foil type wrappers seem WAY loud when you're out in the woods trying to be quiet.

I try to stay from coffee early in the morning or by 10 o'clock... well, let's just say it'll be time to visit the library.
