Names and such were deleted to protect the innocent (me!). And if you do recognize this lake (SFW1960!!!) please keep the name to yourself. Thanks! So, how would you approach this northern Michigan Lake this time of year for bass and pike??? (not sure why the quote the guy in Howard City... there are several towns as big or bigger then Howard City near this lake).

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking but I would say times of year would be the same for any other bass pike lake. Don't fish em off their beds in the spring and you will have a healthier population year round. I see a noticable drop in bass population if our lake is hit hard in the spring.

The whole west side looks good for bass especially where it butts up against those cattail reed beds. The north end middle looks good for that also. I wouldn't be surprised if you had some lurnker pike in the deeper holes. The pike will travel from teh deeper water to feed in the shallows.

If I was gonna ice fish I would set up in the middle south where its 10ft and between all those deep holes. You could cover a lot of travel paths from one location.

I guess what I"m asking is in the just after sun up time frame where would you fish and what might you throw? Afternoon, same question??? This is my first year fishing the fall bite and I'm looking for advice from some who do it more regularly than I do.

Sheesh, if you guys want to keep a lake a secret, that is not a good way to do it (I know what lake it is, but please post your report so I know if I should go there sometime). I am no expert at late fall fishing, but in the center of the lake there is the long, gradual tapering flat and in lakes I fish, the 10-15' region if there is weeds left should be good. There is also goo deep water near.

Late fall, my first stop would be to make a beeline from the launch to the feeder creek at the northeast corner of the lake. The water coming in will probably be warmer than the lake water, thererfore attracting bait. It also has the advantage of the prevailing SW winds stacking up the warm water there and keeping it there.
Stop two would be on the big flat nnw of the launch, looking for any last remaining vestiges of green weeds that will concentrate fish. It has the proper southern and western exposure for weeds to stick around a little longer, as well as the prevailing wind stacking warmer surface water again.
Stop 3 would be the saddle between the main basin and the second bay on the south side west of the launch. That would be my #1 spot for hog hunting in the summer too.

Mike - Good advice on starting at the inlet. If You're like Me, I really have to CONCENTRATE on a SLOW retrieve (no Summer burn) this time of year. Husky Jerks & X Raps shine for this. Crank nice and SLOW and stall it right in thier face - as long as You can stant it - repete. Think deep & steep ambush points - inside/outside corners. When You think You're fishing slow enough, slow down some more :tdo12:. C-man

Well lets see. I have a spinner bait tied on (same one Brando uses), two suspending jerk baits (one X and one husky), my usual dropshot rig, and I just picked up a couple dare devils. Add that to my usual bass gear and I think I have a lot of it covered.

Unfortunately, Mikey did outfish me, by a few dinks. Of course, I had the best fish:coolgleam. And I did outfish him on spinnerbaits & cranks.

But like I said, he couldn't set down the dropshot/shakyhead rods! ..which explains why he caught more bass, I caught mostlt pike, & I caught big fish!
