skunk ?

So we got a skunk today and i have a ? whats the best way to set the smell out of the fur. i was just going to wash it outside and let it dry. but i just wanted to know if anyone new a better way. thanks

Airing the pelt out for a while will normally tone down the smell, if it is only slightly contaminated.

You might try some type of commerical ordor out product on the fur.

I had luck with baking soda and some peroxide, mix it up rub it in like shampoo, then let set over night. In the morning rinse, dry, then when its dry, skin it. Making sure not to hit the glands, and lastly put a little febreeze in a baggie with the pelt and put it in the freezer. Pelt came out without a hint of smell. Wish it was my pelt but I was helping my neighbor. It was a pretty rank pelt when we started. I do have to caution though its a wives tale on how to get the stink out of clothing that I applied to trapping but I have no idea if the baking soda and peroxide will affect the pelt thats why we did it before we skinned him.
