Looking for any info on salmon out from Black River. I'm heading up this weekend and plan to give it a shot. Haven't been on the big lakes in a couple years.

Fishfoote: I was supposed to be up in that area for the Michigan Brown Trout Festival myself but it’s not looking to good for that right now. A couple of my fishing buddies are there however and the Black River and South Point are one area they may be fishing in. Doug and Dave are usually pretty good about talking to people on the radio and sharing information. Give them a call on 68 or 72. The boat name is Captain Hook II. Tell them Steelie Ed said to give them a call. If they’re in to the fish tell them they can give me a call and rub it in.

There may be a couple of commercial trap nets in the area of South Point to the north or just about straight out from the river somewhere around 70 foot of water on out. They’ll be very well marked; just stay outside of the markers and you’ll have no problem. If the fish are in that area, it’s pretty good from about 65 feet of water on out to 110 or more. All the traditional trolling methods work {downriggers, dipseys, wire, lead core, etc.}. Run glow spoons early in the morning and when the sun starts getting higher in the sky switch to maybe blue or green dolphins, green or blue whales, try some white spoons with glow or crushed ice tape. Those are a few possibilities, keep an ear on 68 and see what the guys are saying is working.

I hope this information is of some small help to you. Good Luck out there and keep those hooks sharp!

Thanks Ed. I'd like to get one morning out there, but as I said it's been a couple years and I'll probably go for an evening run first so I can set some weigh points in the daylight. Plus I've talked my wife into going and we'll be taking our 3-year old daughter - so the first trip out can't be at the crack of dawn or run more than a couple hours. I'll let you know how I do. Thanks again.
