I am just about to spool on some new Fireline, 10 lb test, in a smoke color. This is the first time I will replace it in about 5 years, really good stuff. Anyhow, how can I mark this darker line, since I don't have a line counter reel? Could I bleach out the color every 10 feet or so, or would the bleach affect the line somehow? Thanks.

You could bleach but it could weaken the line.
I always just count whether it be revolutions of my spool or whaterver just to stay consistent.

Fin, before i got my line counters I would measure out my distance and put a pre tied bobber stop string on the line at that point. pull it tight and leave some of the tail on.

If it is a baitcast just count passes. Every time the level wind goes across that is one pass. Measure out how long a pass is and then when you are out fishing just do simple multiplication.
