I think i already know the answer to this question but i figure i'll ask anyway.

I am looking to sight in my slug gun and figure most shooting will be at 50 yards or under so what should i sight in at. I was planning on sighting in at 50 but practicing at 25 and 100 to know where i will hit at those distances. The problem is i have never shot shot slugs through anything except a bird barrel before so i am not familiar with/comfortable with the balistics of a slug compared to a rifle bullet. From what i've heard there can be up to a foot of drop at 100 yards, is this true? I just don't want to over/under compensate drop for distance.

No matter what i'll definitely be spending some time at the range this week.

What type of slugs? Rifled barrel? Scope of iron sights? What kind of cover will you be hunting?

Everyone is different but I start at 50y and sight in 2" high with my mossy 500 with a cantaliver, rifled barrel. I also have a 45MM scope on it and shot nice tight groups at 100y. I even practice out to 150 witch is about 4" lower, so.... I suggest if your doing iron sights stay at 50 but a "slug gun" with a scope 100 for sure. You know at 50 it's 2" high so just make that adjustment in the field.

I just assumed the drop would be much greater than 2" and since i wouldn't get many shots at 100 yards it'd be better to sight in at 50. But for only 2" i'll sight in at 100 just for the sake of being consistent.

By the way rifled barrel with sabot slugs and a scope.

Another question i had is with slug choice. I've always shot Winchester or Federal rifle ammo so i purchased Winchester slugs yesterday. It seems to me that if you hit a deer with a slug he's going down. Do you guys have a preference?

Most every gun/model prefers a certain brand/size of slugs. Your best bet is to try several different brands and settle on the one that gives you the best groups at 100 yards.....

I to would try to zero in at 100 yards and then when you have that zeroed in your gun try the other yardages to determine drop/rise.......

Good luck....
