:yeahthat::yeahthat: I will second that as well. I hunt open expanses of farms, and have consistenetly taken deer at ranges over 120 yards with them. Solid round.

I hear alot of good things about the shockwaves, besides being hard to load in tc's. I use the Cabelas Dead centers, they load easily are accurate penetrate completely and expand really well.
They make a big hole that is through and a great blood trail, when needed. I use a 260 grain. With 6 (I think) deer shot with them, the farthest was about 35 yards and a blood trail that Stevie Wonder could follow. :D
Good luck with your smoke pole.

I'll third that.. They push down much easier in my optima than larger sabots.Plus it's a Hornady bullet. My $.02, Mark

You gotta shoot em and see if they are ACCURATE. Hitting power don't mean nothing if the gun can't deliver the bullet on target.

I've found the T/C 300gr Spire points with the Superglide Sabots very accurate and easier to load in my Omega and Encore. That being said though, you really need to try some different brands and loads to see what works for your gun.

I get 2 inch groups out of my encore at 100 yrds shooting the hornady sst new easy load 250 gr.
3 pellets of Jim Shocky Gold powder and have killed 3 deer over 200 yrds with that set up ( was using the older hard to load sst's)

I shoot 295 grain powerbelt aero-tips out of my optima pro and have only good things to say about them. They shoot great and do some major damage!

the Hornady 300 grain SST or Shockwave (same bullet) can't be beat. They shoot extremely accurately and have awesome knockdown power.

Quite frankly it isn't any different then it is with any other gun. You have to try several different bullets and loads to find out which one YOUR gun prefers. There are several quality bullets on the market but none of the hype for any of them is any good if your gun won't group them where it should.

I have a CVA optima and tried several , several loads , I found mine worked best with 100 grains of pyrodex loaded with a 250 grain hornady SST. Easy loading also.

That setup and one using the 300 is very popular out of the CVA's as well as the TC Shockwave in 250 with 100 pellets.
Last night I did a search on the loads. I also found a chart based on the twist of the barrel. It gave recommendations for those with a 1:28 and 1:32 twist to start with 250's and 300's. Again, this in my mind is only as good as a bore sighted gun...just get's you on the paper. But putting in the field time will ensure the best setup.
Good Luck.

Always liked the shockwaves, hard to load for me. Bought some of the crushed rib sabots (just the sabot, no projectile) from Harvester, and used them with the hornady bullets. These sabots are great, reduced pressure to push down the barrel by half, retained the accuracy.
