Heading up the in-laws tomorrow for a 4 day weekend and some bow hunting. The father-in-law would like to go fishing one day and mentioned trying for whitefish off some of the area piers. Is it too early? Anyone else have recommendations where we can get into some fish?? Father-in-law just likes having a tug at the end of the line. Tried Fletchers a few times when I've been up there but usually during the summer when it's weed choked. Do you think any of the weeds have died off and we may be able to get into some pike/bass? Not really set on any one place or species.....just want to catch something.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Scott

Just north of town, right on US-23 is Long Lake and Grand Lake, both great fisheries! SM Bass, Walleye & Perch. Not in overwheming numbers but a good time!

Thanks for the replies guys. Not sure what the game plan is at this point. I've fished Grand Lake once during ice fishing season and have heard good things about it. Sure does look like a pretty lake which doesn't necessarily translate to good fishing...but scenery is nice!! Never had much luck on Hubbard Lake. Would like to try for duck hunting down by the DNR launch. Did notice a few makeshift blinds out there so I may give that a whirl vs. fishing. I've also been fascinated with the lore of Fletcher's Pond but never done much there either. Maybe it's me!! :yikes:

I'll report back after the weekend either way!!

I have property up there on Grand Point on Black Bass Bay. I call it my "Mental Health Getaway". Haven't had much luck fishing there, however.

Thanks again guys!! Didn't make it out fishing as the wind and bow hunting got in the way. Did take a ride around the lake one day and there were a couple people out fishing on the channel going in behind the houses on the south end. Couldn't tell if they were hooking up. Stopped at the local store/bait shop on the south end and the lady behind the counter said it's been pretty quiet. Did make it bowhunting on each day and had many does and a few smaller bucks in front of me. Didn't pull the trigger (release) though as I was waiting for a shooter buck. She have taken one of the does in hindsight. Oh well, still had a nice weekend up there. The father-in-law decided that he wanted to start the woods on fire around his burn pile on Sunday. :yikes: A call to the Sanford fire dept. quickly extinguished it!!

Until next time,

Scott

They had one of the gates on the dam at Fletchers Sunday and it make the fishing terrible. But the gates are closed at 9th st. Which makes no sense, to me anyway, since its just splashing right over the top. Once they open those tho, there should be some good fishing down there.
