As far as I'm concerened, the "S word" should not even be uttered by any of the Lions until they've won at least two playoff games in a row.

OOOOFFFFFFFFFFF, I love my Lions, but no way in hell they are ready for a "S" word yet, they are still a good 2 season and a GM away from it. Les

I think it's great, If a team don't think it can compete with anyone in the league then why even try. It may be a loafty goal at this point but it every teams goal. Good for him. Man that guy impresses me more and more everytime he talks.

What is he supposed to say--especially to those f***tards in the Detroit sports media?
If he says he wants to be the guy that leads them back to the promised land of 8-8, they'd blast him for settling for low expectations and that's always the problem with the Lions.
When he says he's here to win a superbowl, they're all over him.
I like Kitna more and more--especially when he's giving it to the media.

Good for Kitna! I have to laugh though that there are a handful on that web page that seem to think Kitna is the second coming! I watched him in person numerous times while with Cincy, and let me tell ya, he's allright but he's not a Super Bowl caliber QB. What he is though, is a leader. He's the right guy for Detroit right now, they need that leadership in a bad way. His attitude has been exactly what they needed. And if Detroit is smart, they will draft a solid future QB and let Kitna mentor him for a couple years....a role he has experience with and is good at, all the time moving that team forward.

super Bowl caliber,,Oh,,you mean guys like Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, Rex Grossman and the Likes. That is just a few. Heck Marino never won a Super bowl. I think you are mistaken about Kitna. He is a much better QB then any of those guys by leaps and bound. Do I think he is Montana, Nope, But he definatly has enough talent and drive to take the Lions as far as this "team" will go.

Other than interceptions, no accuracy and boneheaded checkdowns, what has been the most common complaint dating back to Lions' QB's since I was basically a sperm 38 years ago? Answer: No testicular fortitude, no leadership, no guts. Now we have a QB that has all of that and it's still not good enough? Give me a break, he's the first Lions QB in a long time that gives that position a bit of swagger and out and out competetiveness. Like I said, I like him more and more as time goes by.

Welp 1000, your officially on the wagon.. I never got off,,always been a Lions fan even through all the losing. This is a different team then the past, coached by real coaches who actually teach and lead.

I never got off the wagon either--the last few years, I just stayed in the back where no one could see me!
Right now, it's safe for me to break out my Lions car flag without someone running up and suggesting I get into rehab or something.

I never said he was not good enough just said he's not the long term answer, nor can he take the current team to the Super Bowl. I said he was a leader, something Detroit seriously needed.
So basically, we agree.

Well Trent and Rex, both had defenses that were far better than Detroits current defense. Trent and Rex just had to manage the game and not turn the ball over. Kitna is in no such position....not even close! Trent and Rex both had excellent running games and very good special teams. Again like Detroits defense, the running game and special teams are solid, but cannot carry this team to a Superbowl like the Ravens and the Bears. Brad? Oh yeah lets see. Great defense, solid running game. Kitna may be more accurate, maybe he makes better decisions etc, but his team is not as good as those 3 super bowl teams were. Kitna is allright, but take off the rose colored glasses if you think he can do it without an elite supporting cast on both sides of the ball. Like I said, they are close. Lucky for them they are in the NFC with a bunch of also rans. Any team that can manage 9-7 has a shot to get embarrased on the big stage.
Marino never won a super bowl, your right. And trust me, he was heads and tales better than Kitna. Proves my point that you need a supporting cast.
The pieces of the puzzle are close.

Kind of like Kitna did the last two games, right?

True, against two very average NFC teams....yes I said it, the Bears are average (actually they are pretty bad). So is Tampa...average Again, average is ok in the NFC. Is Kitna manageing the game going to be very succesful against slightly above average teams in the NFC like Dallas or New York? Will his manageing the game even be slightly effective against the AFC Elite? Hardly.
It's good to be optimistic at 5-2 but don't be shocked if they end up 9-7 or even 8-8. They may well go 10-6 or better but be honest with yourself, they are not at Super Bowl level just yet.

Don't get me wrong, I am not one of the drunken tailgaters screaming "Superbowl baby!"
I merely pointed out that similar teams have in fact made the trip to the big one. Kitna is the leader, spiritually and practically, of this team, something the Lions have been missing for the 28 years I have rooted for them.

I agree 100% He's good for this team and is helping to instill a winning attitude which will go a long way towards making this organization a winner in the long run. He was doing the same thing in Cincy, even as a back up. Only Cincy has a bunch on "me" players and thugs. Detroit has done a pretty good job of cleaning house.

Look at his QB rating! Look at his stats! Look at how he leads! More importantly, look at how his team believes in him! He is on pace to pass for 4000 yards. He is DEFINITELY more than adequate, and is the best QB we have had in this city for as longas I can remember.
Like Kitna said "The day my goal is not to win the Superbowl, is the day I am outa here".

He's adequate. He's had a good 7 games. Look at his career. And yes, he is the best QB Detroit has had in decades. That my friends is pretty bad and shows how pathetic this organization has been.
Again, I think he is the right person for the job right now, no arguments.

At this point I think on any given Sunday the Lions can play with any NFL team except 2. If they can keep getting better, then those 2 will also fit in the category.

...Look at his career.....
For openers he is thriving under Martz and is putting up the best numbers of his career. Last year he passed for over 4000 yards with a near 80 QB rating, and over a 60% completion rate. This year his completion rate is almost 70%, his QB rating is 93.5, and he is well on his way to another 4000 yard season.
When he became the starter in Seattle he averaged 3000 passing yards/season. In Cincinnati as the starter he averaged about 3300 yards per season. For his career, in 115 games he has a 60% completion rate and a 77 QB rating. For comparison Bret Favre has a 61% career completion rate and an 85 QB rating.
Looking at his carreer: it doesn't look all that bad to me.

Stats only tell a portion of the story. I've watched him play, alot. I've watched him in tough games, I've watched him in clutch situations. I'm not convinced. I'm not saying he's a bad quarterback, not at all but he's not the second coming of Joe Montana or even Brett Favre for that matter. Think back at all the great QB's you'd want on your team for that final drive when you need a TD in a big game...........ask 200 people the same question outside of Michigan and not a single one would even stutter Kitnas name. Don't say he hasn't played in any big games, he has, I've sat in the stands watching them. Thats all I'm saying.
Sheesh! For some here, you'd think I kicked their dog!

Maybe, just a maybe......
This is the time when Kitna gets to shine, this is the time when an abomination of a team finally puts it all together and gets their deserved wins.
IF that happens Kitna will be a huge part of the leadership that got them there.
Go Lions.....but you have 9 games left to show us.
