Question on stoploss traps. I have used some older blake and lambs and some victor stoploss traps. I liked them and they worked well on rats last year, tried a few dukes but was not impressed by their stoploss model. We have some pretty low water levels and gonna be more difficult to get drowning sets, thus gonna put out more stoploss and try some double jaw #1's.

Has anyone tried or used the Sleepy Creek Stoploss trap, the #1's, and how did you like them? I was thinking of ordering a dozen, but before I do...would like to get some opinions, otherwise will try to pick up a few more B&L's or try to find more Victors.

Thanx in advance.

soggy,

I don't think you'll get many replies on the Sleepy Creek's. I believe this is the first year they are available. If I were you I would look for some used Victors or B&L's. All I use are the Victors. If you are going to use your plain #1's in shallower water wire a decoy weight to the chain near the trap. If you have the flat ones you may be able to wire it to the bottom of the trap with out it causing any inteference. The added weight will get them drowned a lot quicker.

I looked at some Sleepy Creeks at the MTA convention, particually looking for the super traps that I need to buy to hold beaver since my legholds are all illegal.

I didn't look at the Sleepy Creek stoploss but what traps I did look at were pretty crudely made IMO.

I always used Victor Stoploss when I trapped rats. Adding weight to the bottom of a statdard #1 helps. I used large tire weights wired to the bottom of the frame.

So you did not like the sleepy creek traps at all???? I went ahead and bought a dozen 1 3/4 offset cs to try some land trapping this year on the advice of numerous guys who used them and liked them.

Curious, what did you not like about the sleepy creeks? One of the few traps still made in the Country too.

The only trap I looked at was at least a #4 trap so I can not judge the smaller sizes. After using #4 victors for so many years they were not an impressive looking trap

If I remember right they were the ones that had the steel in the jaws and frames that was real wide, As if it took the extra width to make up for the lack of strength in the steel. They looked like they would need work to get the action of the trap to work smoothly due to the square edges of the steel.
