I am considering purchasing a Marlin modl 925 .22 Mag for Varmint/Coyote hunting.
Any reviews on this particular rimfire, or rimfire for coyote overall?
Thanks.

Don't have that specific gun but most Marlin 22 mags. are a good decent gun. I have the Marlin 882SSV in 22 mag. Its a tack driver.....
22 mag. will take down a yote, wouldn't stretch the yardage very much but within 100 yards he'd be dead with a good hit.......

Thats what I'm looking for, within 100 yds.

Agreed: 100 - 125 yards max is the limit for the .22 mag.
Try the Remington 33 gr ammo, it is a Hornady V-max bullet and super accurate in my Ruger 77/22.

What about the CCI 30gr. ? Is that little bit more velocity a big difference?

30gr has poor accuracy out of my 30+ yr.old Marlin but 50gr Feds are nasty at 100yds and IN for nightime hunting. I'll take the power of a 66.66...% heavier bullet over a bit faster, light bullet anyday at these ranges, but that's just me.

Try what your gun likes - I did not get good results with the CCIs.
I tried 40 and 50 gr loads but my rifle is far more accurate with the Remington 33s.
I like bigger bullets too but folks kill yotes with the 17 gr .17 HMRs so 33 seems to be plenty at that range.

Hey WW
I have the 983T and mine likes the Remmy 33gr as well, but it also shoots the Winchester 40gr FMJ just as well. Mine didn't like CCI 40gr FMJ I'm all for using a 22mag on yotes, but fear a tracking job if not a drop right there shot, Snow would be a lot easier!

I'm glad this post came up. I've been mulling over buying a .22 mag also. I wanted it for night hunting. Has anyone seen an over and under combo with a .22 mag?

Savage makes a combo gun but to this day I'm unsure as to what the .17HMR is.....is it a centerfire or a rimfire? All the other combo's 12ga or 20ga come with a centerfire for the rifle, begining with the 22hornet.

There's microgrooves in them' there barrels! I agree, the Remington Premier 22 Win. Mag. 33 GR. V-Max are the best in my gun. Shot all, I mean all, the others and couldn't get a group I was happy with at 100 yards. With the 33 gr. V-max, less than 1.5" groups consistant. For small game, head shots only, with fox and coyote go for the lungs, you won't be disappointed. I bought a case of the V-Max just "in case" Big Green decided to discontinue them, and no, they're not for sale.

Nice. Thats a poke w/ .22mag.My personal best is 80 yard head shot on a chuck.
BTW .17HMR is a rimfire.

I have tried rimfire rounds on coyotes with little success. If they are close enough, and the shot is dead on, such as the head, you are likely to drop one. Coyotes are a tough animal, and can go quite a ways into cover after being hit. I would suggest any of the small caliber centerfire rounds for them. I personally use a 220 Swift with a 40gr V-max round, but have gotten them with a 17 Remington, .223 and a .204 Ruger.
