We need a little help finding an organization that takes disadavantaged kids fishing in the Great Lakes area. I am already aware of Benefit4kids, Cast for kids and a few others but there are others out there.
One of my contacts know that they donated monies to a group/charity just this last season where a group of charters on Lake Michigan took a good size group of disadvtanaged kids fishing. Problem is, their computer crashed and the name and record of the donation is gone and they have short term memory loss, lol!
Can anyone point us in the right direction?
Thanks

Are you just looking for the names of all the groups out there?
Or, are you looking for a specific group or one that is active in a particular area of the state?
If it is the group that you referred to that took kid's out on Lake Michigan then I would suggest that you contact one of the groups you have an address or phone number for. Ask them if they can point you in the right contact people.

Yes to all. We have done multiple searches, asked more than one contact as we know more than our share of people in the industry. We have a list started and are contacting those we know of and reviewing each organization. Havent heard from anyone yet on an organization that matches our friends description, so figured to expand to whom we asked, never know.
We are recruiting such organizations for the sport fishing show we are having (details in the near future). We are not having the show just to make a profit, we want to promote fishing, so what better way than to do the right thing and include the disadvantaged, especially kids?
Currently we have Reeling & Healing Midwest, where Fly fishing is used as therapy for cancer victims and survivors, mostly ladies, but men are also welcome. Then we have the CHIP program (Child Identification program) sponsored by the Masonic Lodge, free to parents.
There is Benefit4kids, Castforkids among a few of the big name organizations, all good, but not the only ones out there.
We have another 3 1/2 months to look and we are saving a booth or two to offer the organizations we feel would best fit our targeted area -fishing the Great Lakes. In the end, if we have Benefit4kids or Castforkids, its still good.
Thanks for asking though.

Ozzman,
I'm not a group, just me and my little charter boat, but I have taken kids out before and would be willing to do it again. I have had students from the ISD in Monroe and Lenawee, and have taken out "city" kids that never have fished before. My only concern is that I just don't have the room for wheelchairs being only 22 feet long.
If you ever need me, just let me know and we can set something up.
