Howdy all!
I could use some advice, please. My 12 year old son who has a form of autism is interested in hunting-squirrel and deer he says. I don't hunt, but would take him if I could find a place. I live in Rochester Hills- near Oakland, Lapeer, Macomb counties.
He does not do normal sports like soccer or baseball- can't do them and has had a rough time in school.
I'd be grateful if I could take him hunting, not often but one or 2 times to see how he does. I'd gladly do my share-donate to a charity, etc.
Thanks,
Mark

Try out Bald Mountain...
Plenty of squirrels running around up there...If you go to the main check station they can point you to the legal hunting areas.

Mark. I live a stones throw from Bald Mt. If you want to take your boy out for some squirrel I'd be happy to meet you and show you some good areas. Places with oak will hold them in good numbers. Week days or mid day weekends are your best bet to avoid bow hunters. Once we get snow we can consider chasing bunnies with my beagle but then you'd probably have to get one :) PM me if your interested.

Hi Mark, I am a member of The Michigan Squirrel Dog Assn. and would like to invite you and your son to our next Buddy hunt. We will meet at the home of our President, Mike English. He lives on Meridian Rd. 1/2 mile north of M57 which is near Bannister. The date is Nov.3. We draw out at 9:00 AM and hunt for 3 or 4 hours. We have a pot luck meal after the hunt. The cost is $5.00 per dog so, if you don't bring a dog, there would be no charge to you. We go out with 2 dogs per group. We are a family oriented club. It is a very safe way for your son to hunt as the gun ( usually a .22 ) is carried unloaded to the tree. When it is time to shoot, an adult is there to oversee everything. There is usually a lot af action when hunting with dogs and the kids don't have to be quiet for long periods. If you can make it,you would be very welcome.

If you are near Lapeer then go online and check the states land maps or buy a states land book. There is over 1000 acres of state land in and around Lapeer.

I appreciate all your replies-I just logged on and saw them all. I'll try and get back to you by private message. I'm surprised there are so many squirrell hunters- I hunted 20 years ago in the thumb for pheasant and duck-rarely saw a deer , turkey, or squirrel in those years. Amazing how the deer just moved into the area. Thanks to everyone- it is so difficult to find a place for the boy to hunt as I don't know many people with land.
