anyone make a home made corn feeder? I seen one on this Bigfoot show looked like about 4-6" PVC pipe 6-8' long with a y fitting capped at both ends and the y was open! was looking to see if anyone has used one of these or seen one.

a buddie of mine made one, i got him an empty 55 gallon drum, then he got some steel pole and some mounting hardware, put some legs on the drum then he bought a battery feeder from bass pro and put that on. he spent 90 bucks total, it hold around 400lbs of corn i think and feeds automatically.

I have used these feeders before. They work well. You need to put a can at the top of the feeder to prevent squirrels from getting trapped inside the pipe. As the corn goes down they can't climb out until its empty. So one day while your sitting at your stand you will hear constant scratching. Its a squirrel in the feeder trying to get out.
2nd problem they feed all the time until gone. So if a group of raccoons come in. They eat, and eat and eat. Where as a timer feeder only puts out so much feed.
The last problem I found with these feeders was filling them. You almost have to fill them by a quart container. Its very hard to pour a pickle pail into a 4 inch hole. Or a 50 pound bag of corn into a 4 inch hole 6 ft. off the ground.
I don't use these feeders anymore all my feeder are timers. They feed about a coffee can of corn twice a day..

And I saw a small doe with her face stuck in one and died stuck there.
Besides I think the tube type with out a broad cast spinner is illegal in Michigan.

You are correct according to our guys in the law forum. I questioned about these types of feeders last year and got the reply that indeed they were illegal for the reason you mentioned above. No broadcasting.
