I am looking to buy a vacuum sealer. what are your guys experiences with different foodsaver models. cabelas has a sweet one for 400 bucks but that is a little much. the foodsaver models seem to get low customer ratings on the cabelas site though.

I just bought was is the equivalent of their FoodSaver GameSaver Deluxe - the $140 on their site - got it on sale at Sam's Club for $90 though.
I love it. I've so far used up all the rolls it came with, plus another roll from the box I bought...I've done meat, fish, soup and tomato sauce in it. I bought it in July.
We borrowed one of the ones that you have to push down on the lid, and that thing sucked - or didn't. I hated it. This one we have, you just flip the lever, and push a button - it vacuums and seals all by itself. It has the roll storage in it, and a cutter in it, so it's pretty easy to seal a bunch of stuff up right in a row. The vacuum tray comes out nice to rinse out if anything gets in it.
The one we have gets good ratings on every other place I've looked. I would imagine the Cabela's brand one would get good reviews on the Cabela's site....

I bought a foodsaver last year, one of their larger models, it's black with stainless trim. I've gone through four rolls of bags sealing this entire springs catch of walleye. Last fall, it's debut, it package two deer, October's Manistee salmon run and many roasts, steaks. I haven't had a problem with it once. I've run it non-stop, well as fast as the next bag was loaded, for three hours. Alot of times people have problems with off brand bags/rolls. I haven't used anything but the foodsaver brand of bags, so that may be a different story. The great thing is I paid $60. I'd buy another with out hesitation.

We got the foodsaver V2440 it was in the $100 range, we picked it up this time last year and it seems to be doing a good job, used it for two deer, bear, and other bulk meat we have purchased. The nice thing you can re-use the bags over and over, then when they get real small I seal up matches, tissue etc for outdoor events. I am sure there are better ones out there but for the money I am happy with it.

Bocephus, I have had several Foodsavers. They seem to work well for a good long time, and then die. You can also buy 4 of them for what they want for the "good one". I wonder how much longer one of those would really last? Anyway, check out the prices at a store called Tuesday Morning. They have the best prices I've found. One of the stores is at 551 Romence Rd. Portage. 1-269-324-4827.It shouldn't be too far from you. If you can talk the wife out of the Kohl's cupon, they have the best price on bags, and the best selection on sizes. Good Luck - Capnhook

I have had my FoodSaver for 10-12 years. Have worn out a couple motors and each time I sent it in for repair all I had to cover was the shipping cost. That being said, I recommend them highly.
One key thing to remember "you get what you pay for".

I received a foodsaver last year for Christmas to late to vacume any deer but its done good with hamburger, pork chops and Hot Dogs. Alot of places carry them Kolhs, Wal-Mart, Meijer. Shop around you can probley find one for under $100.

We have had our Foodsaver for probably 6 years and love it. Couldn't begin to guess how many rolls of bags we have gone through, but it works great everytime. Would be nice with one of the newer ones that does everything, mine you have to hold the head down. Probably won't replace it untill I manage to kill this one though.
Watched an ad on tv over weekend from Ziplock, seems they have come out with a double sealed ziplock bag and they claim them to be better than a vaccum sealer, I would be interested in bags if they are as good as they claim as I have to store my vacuum sealer in basement and its a pain to get out to use

I have a foodsaver pro II. I received a base model as a gift but took it back and traded up because of the more heavy duty heat sealing element. I have gone through countless rolls of bags and it also makes the trip to deer camp each year. It's great to return from the trip with the deer ready for the freezer. I had some venison that was stored two years and it was still as good as the day I froze it. I never had food last more than a month without some freezer burn with any other system including the best double seal zip-lock bags. Just a word of warning - don't buy the cheapo bags. Use the real thing and you will be much happier with the results. It's not that expensive when you do the math. If price is an overwelming concern then a foodsaver isn't for you.

I've had the Foodsaver V2440 for 1 year and love it. I think it was around $129. Go to the website www.foodsaver.com and look for the TV special, you get the machine, 2 vac. canisters, and extra rolls of bags.

I love my foodsaver. Not sure which model I have. I got it at Kohl's for about $100 or so. Its black. I prefer the bags to the rolls. Works great on walleye, salmon, venison. If I have the time, I much rather process my own game and vacuum seal it myself.

We have foodsaver and it's been very good. The wife and I use it quite A bit. we've had ours for about five years. Would buy another if needed. We bought ours down in fla. on a target close out sale. I got five of them and used them for gifts, never heard any one complain about them.

Has anybody bought the bags that they sell on ebay? There is one guy that seems to sell them really cheap compared to the foodsaver brand. There are quite a few people on there that have them at a fraction of the cost of the name brand stuff and they say they work as well or better. Just wondering if anyone has any experience. I spent almost $150 this spring sealing up walleye and if I could do it a little cheaper this fall for deer it would be nice. Thanks.

I saw one of those in Krogers the other day, almost picked it up. The thing is battery operated with a little vacuum nozzle on it and the bags have a little plug on them where you plug the nozzle in. It was only $10.00, do not know how much the bags are though, they weren't with the display and I didn't go looking for them.

Buddy of mine showed up to the deer cutting party with one of those ziplock deals. He picked it up on the way. Once he figured out how it worked he gave it a try....POS He asked if I had my smaller foodsaver...:yikes:

Something must be wrong with his. I have been using mine for 2 weeks now on fish and squirrels. Works just as good as my foodsaver and you can re-use the bag. Works great.

$3.99 for 10 gallon bags. You can simply open them up, take out what you want, and then vacuum again.
