What's the best bet for the Rogue the week of 7/30? Or should I look further north. How are things on the Rogue this year with the more liberal fishing rules anyway? Just looking to tangle with some browns or brookies.

Any reports at all from the Rogue? Any hatches going on? Ants? Grasshoppers?

The Rouge really slows down during the dog days of summer. Best bet this time of year are ant's. Black and Red foam ant's work best, fish a size your comfortable with 16-18 are my choice. What section of water are you intrested in? upper or lower river...

Probably the upper river where the special restrictions used to be. Don't know what the restrictions are this year, will have to look up. Probably less fish there if the restrictions have been liberalized.

The upper water around 12 mile is always a good bet for a few trout, the deadly panther martin is good for a couple nice fish. Like I said the ant is as good as it gets for dry fishing during the dog days. Later in the summer when the Ephorons start, fishing will pick up.

Well, I may try the upper Rogue tomorrow. Will probably visit Glen Blackwood and see what's going on.

Well I fished the Rogue this evening and it sucked..don't ever go there the fishing is terrible :) Those of you who have been following the threads on trout fishing on this site may see the humor in this.
Anyway, the trip got out to a bad start. I forgot my fly rod. Luckily I had everything else and picked up a cheap michel 7-8 weight fly rod at a party store (Weezer maybe I can use this for my chuck and duck rig?). Well then after fishing a while my Orvis braided loop rig let go of the fly line and I lost the braided part, the tippet, and a fly. After I fussed around tying a nail knot on to get my spare emergency tippet on, I got some good rips at a caddis, and some blue wing olives. There are some big fish in there, but they are not stupid.

Steve, there's always hand lining, hey it works for eye's, maybe you could start something for trout....you don't forget your bow when you go bowhunting do you ?? I think this was a plan to get a new rod!!!!

Steve.. funny you should mention your problem with your braided setup.. I went flyfishing for the first time this season, last week up North (Betsie above Dam) and on my second fish, the whole thing from the end of the fly line was gone!!! That ended my trip, I went back to the cottage for a cold one and some worms for rock bass in the lake..I am going to post a question in the fly tying forum on this.. I love fishing the Rouge, I hope to get out more and start posting some real reports!!
