Hmm....$500 for a knife.:16suspect Don't care how good they are, no knife for practical use is worth that much. I've had the same SHARP brand from K-mart since I first started hunting, still holds a great hair shaving edge. As far as my skinning knives, I go with Gerber.
Spend that money on a new rifle/scope.
But to answer your real question, when I was in the Navy a buddy had one, I wasn't any more impressed with that then any other quality knife you could buy in the 50-100 range. But then again we weren't looking for a knife to cut through car doors either.:cwm27:

Today cars are like tin cans as far as metal thickness

Why the heck were you cutting through a car door? To get in or out? Ha Ha:lol:

I guess if I was worried about fighting off a car door and could only have a knife, maybe I'd look for that in a knife. If I had a choice of weapons I'd opt more for Jaws of Life. Then again I've never seen the option to put in for a Car Door tag.:coco::hide::woohoo1:
Just busting on ya, no offense:yikes:

You are asking the same kind of question of someone asking if a pre 64 winchester rifle is really worth the money compared to say a Savage. Yep, the Savage rifle will shoot well, reasonably priced but in 30 years it will still not have the collector value or feel of a pre 64 winchester rifle.
I have handled several Randell knifes collectors I know have. There balance, heft and feel is like no other knife. The history of them are part of of the reason for the high cost. Are there better knifes out there, sure for a working knife but bottom dollar, a Randell turns heads, works well in the field and as you pointed out, resale is outstanding. There must be some reason that collectors jump on them when ever they find one at the right price.
Is there a demand, well, people are waiting in line.

what's the reason?

Yep, they are good knives. Why just the other day after I got done hanging up my apron, I hacked an anvil in half with one and it still cut through the neighbors car door like it was warm butter. Ha Ha:SHOCKED:

Give swampratknifeworks.com a look. I've done some hard chopping with their "camp tramp" and it will still shave hair. In one of their demos they cut a cinder block with no damage. Jenifer Busse heads up the company. There should be some military and search and rescue familar with Busse knifes. Just a suggestion.

My brother-in-law had one on order, but cancelled when he found out about Dozier. You can get a sweet handmade knife with a kydex sheath and RAZOR sharp D2 blade for $200-300. In my opinion, this is the better option.
I am not a huge fan of big knives either way.
The Dozier took much less time to get and it was one of a kind.

They are what they are, great knives with a collector value. I carried one, can't remember the #, a combat bowie in the Army for "business". Would my M9 bayonet have worked? Most likely but I wasn't taking chances in those kinds of situations. I passed it on to the soldier that took over my squad when I left. Do I need one for a hunting/camp knife, no. Heck I carry a cheap Remington Big Game Folder that my brother gave me for Christmas one year and a small hatchet if camping. Hunting here in MI how often is your life going to be one the line? Course you might want to carry it in the bars in the UP to keep the women off ya, some of them are rough customers!

Enigma, I have a custom made knife I am willing to part with for $500. It is called a Mad eInC hina and would be perfect for you. I also have some "enhanced moisture" hunting land that is of "minimal elevation" that I would be willing to part with for a song. Let me know. Ha Ha Ha

500 bucks...............................for a knife? Enigma you need to throw out the Rambo and Predator BetaMax tapes and get on with your life. Explore chucknorrisfacts.com or go sign up for a yoga class to get rid of some of that free time you seem to have. And 52 months to save up to buy one? Is that when you calculate your lotto numbers are finally gonna hit? Jeez, you need to start keeping and eating a few of those walleye's you catch--------------------------fish is brain food.

Again Iceman you come with your sinistar mind and try to ruin another thread.I don't play with luck I go for fact I do need a knife on occasionally to cut meat or ropes. But my Weapons are my empty hands I have no weapons, but should I be forced to defend myself, My honor, or my principals, should it be a matter of life or death,of right or wrong, then here are my weapons, my empty hands. And on occasion my Weatherby

Randall Knives are very nice, well built and can be field used. however if looking for a custom knife for field use try rapid river knives. they will also custom make knives and are equally nice.

:yeahthat: While not familiar with the knife in question, the answer is simple. If you want one, get it. Some people think I am crazy for some of the choices I make in gear, when an adequate one of whatever will do the job adequately. That is true, but a superb one will do the job and be a joy to use.
And they are right about me being crazy, and my choice of gear may be a symptom, but certainly not the cause..

absoloutly if you want it and can afford it get it. be sure you dont lose it in the field. I have an old marble that I love, but in the woods I carry an old case western, not to expensive if I lose it but one tough knife if I need it.

Enigma I can picture you now in your karate kid death stance with 2 empty hands and 1 foot raised gallantly in the air like a praying mantis ready to defend his honor and principles. Too bad there is an empty brain along with those 2 empty hands. Good thing you own a weatherby and a 500 dollar astronaut knife. If you have any money left, I can give you a helluva deal on some tang powder and a slightly soiled "urine collection device" once strapped to Neil Armstrong's upper thigh.

Iceman Glad you chimed in today I need a laugh or two.Its been a bad day.By the way A man trained only in the use of a firearm loses his effectiveess if his firearm fails to fire or break. A man skilled in the way of the open hands can continue to defend himself engage the enemy, and accomplish the mission.and by the way the shaolion-szu monks were the most feared fighters in china.I think you could use some mental conditioning and discipline to evolve in to a better person I beleave you have mentally exhausted your self you need salvation of your soul to attain spiritual enlightenment.
