I was PO'd yesterday because I only got to watch half the game. The whole first half I was stuck listening while I played taxi dad.
I did get to see Kitna put his body on the line once again, and Megatron's beauty of an end around.
I am still not sold though. It was nice to see an actual gameplan work, sometimes in football it isn't what you do right but what the other team does wrong.
Only all 16 games are gonna tell us if this is a different team, next week in Chicago is a game I am not sure I want to watch.

Here's a tip, the only team's fans that are sold are the Pats. Everyone else is jockying for position. Just be thankful the team has a one snap at a time attitude that keeps them in the closer games. Sorry about your taxi cab duties. This game was more of a grinder then excitement anyways. Good game non the less.

I have them down for two losses in a row at Chicago and again to Denver at Ford Field. My biggest problem so far is the lack of confidence the coaching staff shows in the secondary. Basically, they are just telling the other teams "we can't cover your receivers". This really has nothing to do with ability, but is more related to scheme. They had Garcia rattled and on his heels a number of times. They needed to press cover the receivers and take away the underneath pass, and let the D-line go all out and pressure Garcia. There were too many times that we put pressure on him, and he had an easy out or dump-off because of the cushion by our safeties. I think that press coverage by the secondary can be taught. We really need to start jamming receivers on 3rd and long so the pressure on the QB's will result in sacks, turn-overs, or incompletes.
If we can coach up our secondary to play physical on critical downs... we can improve significantly.
Basically, the "Bend but Don't Break Tampa Two.." just doesn’t cut it in my book!

The tampa 2 was run almost perfect or at least the concept. They held the Bucs to 10 points for most of the game using the Bend but don't break method. I know,,it seems like the Lions were getting the ball run and passed down their throats but the bottom line was only 10 points. If you think that was an unforced fumble aT THE GOAL LINE THINK AGAIN. Big shawn Rogers has linemen and QB's shaken in their cleats. When he is right, he creates people to make unforced error's just by lining up in front of them.

Now, granted, they have to get better on their coverages when the line can't make it there in 3 seconds or they won't do very well against the likes of Favre, but if they make them take 10 to 15 play drives,,mistakes will happen. I am very happy with their overall one snap at a time mentallity.

Plain and simple.... if the Lions can find a way to get off the field when they force 3rd and long..... they can make the playoffs. If they keep giving up the underneath first downs, they will be lucky to finish 500.
I say use the Tampa-two to create long 3rd downs, go after the QB's, press cover the receivers.... and make the freaking play offs!

WOW! I didn't know that Joe Barry read the forums here! Did anyone else notice how the corners moved up to press Chicago's receivers in 3rd down situations....

And they threw a few blitzes at Greise to make him rush his throws. This White guy is turning out to be a great pick up too!!

Defensive Coordinators make some good cash Joe, I think you missed your calling.
However, if he is relying on this forum for tips...it certainly explains the Philly and DC debacles.

Funny I've been listening to a certain Chicago sports station on the radio most of the day and its funny hearing how in "all" facets of the game Chicago "gave them the game"........

Their belief is that Chicago gave them the game instead of Detroit taking the game....................

Myself I believe its probably a combination of both, one only needs to look at all the drops Chicago had in the game.............4 drops in the first 7 plays of the game................if they would have made those catches the game could have been different.....................

I still believe in 10-6 this year however.................well, maybe...

The bears hit 50%
roughly the average of all the last 6.
I think Philly was like 80%, but we never had them at 3rd down.

William Bonney is a cherio pisser on er. lol If the Bears beat the Lions both times they would be 5 and 2,,instead the Lions are 5 and 2 and the Bears are 3 and 5. They did go to the Super Bowl last year right?

 If the loins win 10 games this year,, it still won't be as big a feat as Chicago making it to the Superbowl last year.

I agree about chicago,, that team was a nothing but mirrors last year, but it does make my Lions seem bigger then they are..beating last years Super Bowl Team,,, Yeaaaaa
