put it in your check in bags and no problem. you just can't take much in carry on.

John,
thanks for the reply. i have it all stored in a rubermaid tote. that is the only downfall. i just dont know how i will get that through the check, and on the plane without anything getting stolen!

I know if your luggage is locked they will cut it open if needed to inspect.
A rubbermaid tote should be bungeed closed at least - maybe the baggage handlers and TSA monkeys can cope with that.
FYI New York is one of the most anti-gun states, don't know what area or airport you are going into but be ready for major hassles on transporting your gun cases after you leave the baggage claim.

I have friends that travel quite a bit on hunting/fishiing trips that use the large rubbermaid containers. They drilled 4-6 holes around the lid/container and use tiestraps to secure. To date I've never heard that they've had a problem. One guy I know who pack quite a bit sends a most if not all of his hunting gear via UPS a week or so before he travels there. States its no more expensive than paying for overage on the plane, also no waiting at the terminal, and its there when he arrives! :D

I've travelled with my hunting gear quite a bit. Here is some advise.
When I travel I organize all my clothing and pack them in the roll-up compression bags (can get these at REI). Then place the compression bags inside a waterproof gear bag. This is about as scent free as you are going to get. Then pack duffle bag with the rest of your gear. Rubber made containers are just asking for trouble. The airlines will have a field day with it if its locked. And if you tie strap it shut. If they cut the ties to insepct it, you can gaurentee your top will be missing when it arrives, not to mention the stuff inside. I personally pack all my clothes in the compression bags and then packeverything in a cabelas waterproof duffle bag. This makes keeping everyhting organized and reduces volume. When things get dirty, just place them in an empty compression bag and it won't contaminate everything else in your bag.
As for your bow, I carry a double bow case. Place clothing in the case on both sides of your bow for extra cushioning. I take off my sites and carry them in my carry on case, or pack them in bubble wrap and inside a box inside my duffle. Arrows get up into a pcs tube and placed inside my duffle.
I can pack quite a bit into one large duffle bag, one double bow case and a carry on. Take anything of value or fragile, like binos, camera, etc... in your carry on. Travelling to NY isn't like travelling to Africa or the Far East. Plan ahead, pack carefully and don't take too much stuff and you'll be fine. Send me a PM if you need specifics or have any questions.

I have worked for the airlines for 20 years. Contrary to belief, I can say that TSA and the luggage handlers do everything they can to ensure that you get ALL of your stuff when you get off the plane. Duct tape works well to secure your belongings in a rubbermaid container. When packing, leave a roll in the container on top of everything along with a note to TSA asking for them to re tape the container. If they have to get into your container, they will usually take the time to resecure the lid. As far as keeping thing scent proof, I like the vacuum sealed bags for your hunting clothes. Anything other than that, I'd re wash the clothes. The scent of Jet A fuel and jet exhaust will contaminate just about any clothes. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Stacey, you might want to ask the guide to put flags out at given yardages so you don't shoot under the BIG BUCK.....:lol::lol:
Brian and I will leave a few at BV for you and Mark when you get back from your out-of-state hunts.
Good luck and have fun,

When you get the big buck just shrink wrap him and he will be fine for the return.
