I would start looking for either younger bowhunters that dont want any competition in the neighborhood, or anti's that see it their mission in life to stop the cruel bow hunters by taking their stands.
Oh man, that sux.
FYI, why do ya think I hunt from the ground? :dizzy:

Get yourself a treesaddle. www.trophylineusa.com I have one treesaddle but use it 14 in different trees with my spots in MI and OH. You wear it like a safety harness and weighs 2 lbs. Hunt big ole snarly trees where you can't get a regular treestand in, trees with many branches, trees with no branches, small trees too small for a regular stand. You'll find you can hunt in thick areas where most others hunters can't hunt!!! And you won't get it ripped off:D:D.
Once you go treesaddling, you'll never go back!

Wedge style stands are so easy to put up and take down. Plus climber means it comes with you at the end of the day.
I feel sorry for you having been robbed myself but there is a solution as pointed in my first sentence. You won't have any trouble after using a wedge style stand like a chippewa wedge lok or a climber. No lock and cable in the world can stop a thief. You can open the lock shown above with a bic pen ink insert--honest no joke.

Sorry to hear that it really sucks. I have been away from the sport for a long time, and since I have found this site I am amazed by how many of these threads I have found. Is the general concensus that most of these thefts are other hunters? Is it just local kids or what?
I really hate to think that there are that many so called hunters roaming the woods and stilling other peoples equipment. I know myself and every other hunter that I know personally would never consider stealing or damaging another hunters property. After all of this reading I am very seriously thinking of not doing any tree stand hunting, which sucks but I really don't want to deal with this type of non sense.

that you had some SCUMBAGS violate you. more and more i hear about all these thiefs and more and more this just makes the case for me to buy a climber stand. i have marked all my treestands in such a manner as that to eliminate the markings it would be quite obvious. if i ever had one stolen from me and i caught someone in it god have mercy on them and me:evilsmile

Tree saddles do no such thing if worn properly. The first time I hunted out of mine (The original leather) I hated it, but after some getting used to, I'll never buy a treestand again! I buy treesteps by the box of 50 or 100 off of ebay, and prep spots as I obtain access.
Its a great way to never get your stuff stolen by whistle di*k slugs. take measures a step further by removing the bottom 5 steps or so

I will never understand why people steal things...buttholes
When I first started bow hunting I bought a BullDog stand, same concept as the tree saddle it strapped on like a fanny pack, had an aluminum frame and a sling seat, it also had a bar that you could slide out that held you out from the tree. They are very safe and not sure why that style isn't more popular.
I need to remember who I lent that to.

What gets me is your on private property and these people just come and take what they want thats a bunch of crap you can't trust leaveing anything in the woods because it might not be there when you get back.and theres not much you can do.wish the laws were differnet.

Michigan laws suck for treaspassing ! Thats the root of the whole problem.
Its easy enough to get permission or hunt state land, personnally I go the permission route or hunt my own little 20 acres. My little 20 acres is a public playground for the neighbors kids on there 4 wheelers, my bloodpressure goes ballistic when I try to enjoy a peaceful saturday afternoon of bowhunting on my property, just to have 4 wheelers come ripping thru around a half hour before dark. If I hunt the old family homestead farm of 80 acres, then I have to worry about getting shot from road hunters. Our treaspassing laws suck !

I'll third the treesaddle, I use to have the problem of my treestands being hunted out of midweek when I wasnt around (on private property) and due to some recomendations from here switched. I have since sold all my treestands and hunt soley with the treesaddle will never go back, 100 times more comfortable than any other treestand.

Sorry to hear about your loss,
Question to the tree saddle guys, if your going to a new spot with no prep work, how many steps do you need to take with you and how much would you estimate the total weight of the steps and saddle to be? Does it come close to a 20lb climber?

The ambush model weighs 2 lbs, and its great for early seasons cause its basically mesh. the other models are a little warmer and heavier, weighing in around 4 pounds.
figure in 10 to 20 steps (another 5 lbs max), your strap (1 lb) and youve got ten pounds or less. Plus, you dont have to carry the saddle, as it has suspenders. Just buy yourself a camoflauge backpack and put your steps, strap, small folding saw, and other hunting gear in.
ps. lets push for a new hunting season that opens during the second week of september......trespasser hunting season. Any method of non-lethal hunting or trapping may be used. a bounty of 500 dollars apiece will be paid by the us govt for eliminating those of lesser IQ and improving the overall intelligence and ethics of the human herd.

Yeah I wasted more of my time yesterday walking around I didn't see anything, no tracks, no treestand parts. Only plus is I found some really good hunting spots and lots of fresh tracks.

I know what you mean. I hunt in Chelsea (45 minutes away from home) and I have had a feeder, trail camera and multiple treestands in the woods for 4 years without any incidents. I had a treestand in my garage that was a friends from Florida and my kids wanted to hunt behind our house so I hung that at the back of my property in Carleton. Within a day it was gone. I also have had a dozen goose decoys taken from my 28 acres behind my house as well. I put them out one evening hunt and was planning on hunting the next morning as well so I left them out overnight. When I went out in the morning, they were gone. There were a couple black garbage bags left in the field and footsteps leading to the main road. I hate people who think that they can do whatever they want. I mean, if I find a treestand on my property, I will put a note on the treestand to remove it by a certain date or it will be taken down for them. I will then put my telephone number on it if they want to recover the stand. I will usually wait until the note is gone before I take action. I can't think of any other way to protect my land from tresspassers.

I have been hearing about folks getting stands stolen near my place in Brighton as well. Lucky for me, I have big ol wooden ladders. I did put out one hang on stand and a stick last week though. Guess I will see if it is still there Wednesday night.

When you say steps, are you saying the screw in type steps?? These are illegal for public land, correct?? What other types of steps would you be referring to??

There will always be slobs and thieves. Two days before the opener my buddy was putting up the last of his stands on private property and saw two guys dragging out a small doe. He was pissed but wasn't going to risk trying to get their car info because it was parked on an adjacent owners access. All he could do was call RAP and the cops but nothing resulted. Someone left a whole leg of a deer at the house at the front of the property the evening of opening day with a note saying it was for the hunter [my friend] and "thanks for the understanding". What a bunch a slobs. He didn't want the leg of a poached deer and neither did I so I found a lady who needs to feed a dog a venison diet [health issues] and gave it to her.

I use Lone Wolf Climbing sticks with my Saddle and strap on steps for the platform steps.
I stopped leaving stands out over night many years ago. I have returned to a lot more ground hunting and now my Treesaddle is the my tree climbing option. I have actually had more stands stolen on private land than on public land.

I feel your pain, we had 6 stands taken from private land sometime this year and never had a problem for 18 years, I think there should be a new season set for tree stand theives, from what it sounds like there are a lot to be bagged!!!! I hunt washtenaw county probably not too far from you so it could be the same theives, I just pray I don't catch them because I would be afraid of what I might do to them...........paul55

FWIW I go to Meijers in the spring when they clearance all the tree stands and can get em for $25 that way if they are stolen I'm not out a whole lot,I also use strap on tree steps and remove them when I leave my stand.
