Well I took a buddy out today....no luck with Senkos!:rant: I even practiced:eek::eek::eek:.

He was a complete noobie and I had him using a green tube with red and gold flakes and he cought one slimer and two bass.

I used senkos only and got skunnked!

So now I'm set on senkos for years what would you guys recommend for my bass kit for next season? Just a list of what I should gather up to fish with. I tried one pack of swim senkos and I really liked the action, but I still didn't catch anything :dizzy:

Thanks in advance for the help.

Mark

We smacked them pretty good on spinner baits today. Water temps were in the low 60's, LM were hitting a fairly quick retrive over/ through the weed tops in 3-5' of water. Spinner baits are one of my favorite weapons for bass, LM or SM. They also make a good search bait, you can cover some ground with them, then slow down when you find them and fish plastics if you feel like it. I seldom feel like finessing them.LOL

Today was not a Senko day (way too windy), nor is now typically a Senko time of year. Don't throw them away. Spring all the way through summer, they're deadly. Like Esox said, spinnerbaits this time of year of deadly, and just about any time of year. Put the Senko away until spring and throw a spinnerbait or jerkbait. Then try the senkos next year and let us know how you do. I think you'll be pleased:)

Try the good old rattle trap. On windy days where nothing seems to be bitting a chrome and black or a chrome and blue rattle trap always seems to catch a fish or two.

Rapala X Rap Shad in hot steel was the ticket today before I got too sick of the wind. This time of year, I'm doing well on rapalas (X-rap gold), rat-l-traps (craw or shad), and inline spinners.

Nail on the head. Fall is not the best time for Senkos. Spinner baits, cranks, and jig type baits have been producing for me and the guys I've been fishing with the last couple weeks. DO NOT LET THIS GET YOU DOWN ON SENKOS!!! When the water is warm (summer) and the fish aren't in a chasing mood they are deadly!! Under docks and pontoon boats... deadly!! They are a great skipping bait. Can't tell you how many NICE fish we got under pontoon boats with a senko this season.

DO NOT LET THIS GET YOU DOWN ON SENKOS!!! .

No it won't, I'm just not used to fishing bass and it is getting irritating! Put me on a river with a fly rod and I'm right at home;)

After getting the boat a few months back I've been trying to get back into bass fishing ( I use to bass fish with my grandpa over 14 years ago).

Currently I have the following

three rattle-traps
a couple of shad-raps
six colors of senkos
some Gulp worms
Home-made jigs and spinner baits.

I'm just curious what else I should pick up over the winter months to get ready for next season. Thanks for all of the help.

Everyone here knows what I"m going to say:

Drop shot rig!!
Shakey head worm rig!!!!

These two set ups caught me as many keeper fish as the senko did this tournament season. My biggest fish weighed in was 5.67 lbs. Caught it on a 4" worm on a medium light drop shot rod. As for the shakey head worm rig, If I caught 50 fish on it this summer, 40 of them were over 14"... it proved to be a great rig for bigger fish.

Fish on the right is the drop shot fish... one of the ones on the left was a shakey head fish... and the other is a senko fish.

40 Scumfrogs, 60 Husky jerks, about 100 assorted X Raps. 300 spinnerbaits, rounded out with some Rebel Super Pop-R 's and Storm Chug Bugs.

Get yourself some more senkos!! Not kidding. They will catch fish. I would also get a few blakc scum frogs as mentioned. Some spinnerbaits. I prefer silver or chartruese skirts wih silver willow blades. Definately a few x-raps. And some jigs.

I only have about 1/2 that list. Well, except for the Husky Jerks....:yikes: :help:

Make sure you have all the basic types of bass lures / setups and then worry about getting picky about which brand/model/color.

Crankbaits (shall, med, deep)
Spinnerbaits
Soft plastics
Various types of worms
Tubes
Creature baits
etc
Jigs
Top Water
jerkbaits
Make sure you know how to correctly rig soft plastics (texas mostly)

I'm gonna assume that senkos are included in the "etc" part of soft plastics?? LOL!!!
