I didn't have time to hit my usual fishing spot (50 minute drive), so I hit Newburgh lake with my sister two days ago. Launched the boat and used the trolling motor to hit a few spots. Caught a bunch of bluegills. Still a fair amount of weeds in the lake. They need to weed treat this lake.

there were 2 other boats on the lake. Nice to have almost the whole lake to yourself.

I talked with one of the boaters getting off the lake. He said there is a 18 foot channel running the length of the lake. He said there are some big fish in here. Mentioned a 42 inch pike being caught. He showed me a 5 lb largemouth on his digital camera he caught over by the dam.

Just wondering if anyone else has fished this lake. I'm aware of its past history being polluted and dredged, and wouldn't eat anything out of here. Just wondering if anyone else has caught anything out of a boat here. Nice lake close to get a fishing fix in.

I used to fish it from shore all of the time. Never had that great of luck out of there. I ice fish it a lot and there are tons of bluegill to keep you busy so that is fun. A charter captain i know took his grand daughter down there one day and she caught a 15" gill out of there. I know this isen't believable but i saw the picture with my own two eyes of it on a ruler and this man is not one for fish stories...

There may be a few of the original planted gills in there after the refill and restocking, but there is no such thing as a 15" gill, sorry...The state record is 12" and maybe a little something more, but 15"...no way...

by the way i just checked the DNR data base for state records and well your wrong. The state record is 13.75 inches and there are many 12+" fish in the master angler data base. Think what you want but i saw the picture and i know she enjoyed eating it despite the fact that her grandpa told her to get it mounted and tell the DNR.
