Sorry this reply doesn't have pics but I'm new to the site and understand that one has to post 15 times before you can post pics or set up a gallery.
Is this true? Anyways hopefully I can get some pics posted soon.

The 5x6 elk I shot was taken North-east of Indian River, Michigan on state land. My guides name was Vern Bishop and runs an outstanding outfit. My wife, Vern and I were hunting the elk on horseback and seen five bulls for the day all at different time during the ride. My 5x6 was about 60 yards away and I had no time to dismount so the shot I made was on horseback.
I could see a quarter size mark on his broadside when my 180 grain, 30-06 bullet struck. He troted off for 20-30 yards, when I heard a very loud crash and he was down. It took me an hour to dress him out and I'm still shocked at how big these animals are!!!! The DNR assisted us in winching the elk into their truck and offered to meet my wife and I at the processor.

I have a new found respect for the DNR and would like to thank them, Vern and my wife for an excellent hunt. Hope to have pics posted soon and the elk will be ready to pick up from the taxedermist in two weeks.

Keep putting in for those elk drawings because you never know when you'll get selected.

Many thanks,
Tweek

Tweek;

Congratulations on the bull. I got a 5X5 last year with elk view guide service, the pic is still in my album. Vern was one of the guides I talked to, the only reason I did not go with him was the fact my father, who is 70 was going to be hunting with me and I could not see him doing all the horseback riding. I have to agree 100% with you on the new found respect for the DNR. they run a top notch program with the elk and the elk hunt. Hunting elk in Michigan is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.

BTW: welcome to the boards, you will find a great group of people here.
