....T.V that is!
My girlfriend and I will be watching anyway....
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
The Lions were granted a 24-hour extension by the league to sell the remaining tickets to lift the local television blackout of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There are several hundred tickets left and the league normally doesn't grant extensions unless they have solid information that the game will eventually be a sellout.

The Lions have until 1 p.m. Friday to sell the remaining tickets. The Lions have never had a local blackout in the 42 games they've played at Ford Field.

Im seeing a trend here. They almost didnt sell out that other home game. (Was it the Chicago game?)
Im thinking that the fans just plain old tired of that team. The games were sold out for the first few years cause the stadium was new. Now the "newness" is wearing off and people just dont want to go down and watch the loins. Just watch as the losses pile up, attendance will go down. Heck they're 3-2 and cant sell out tickets to a 4-2(?) Tampa game?:dizzy:

The good news that would come out of it if this continues is that old man ford will feel the hit in the pocketbook and not like that feeling. The old geezer likes to roll with a big fat wallet. When that wallet starts getting lighter, might be time for changes!!!!

Almost forgot, for Musterlndr.....
Tampa 17 loins 14

I'm really going to catch it for this , but here it goes. Why is Ford getting so much flack for the Lions repeatedly lousy years? It seems to me all of our top draft choices are signed. We draft high and usually get the cream of the crop. Don't you think the blame should fall on the players first. The coaching staff may not be the best but they are not stupid men. You can only get so much help with trades and free agents. Who determines these choices? Not Mr. Ford. Please lets not get into the Millen hiring, I agree with everyone on that. I still feel that a moron could pick a Reggie Bush in the first round. It's what you pick in the later rounds that determine your future success. and Mr Ford has no input in those decisions. I feel that the scouts are not doing a proper job in getting any diamonds in the rough so to speak. And all of our coaches coulnd't have been that bad. Put it all together and you have the Detriot Lions. I just can't see where Ford keeps getting the brunt of all the criticism.Do you honestly believe that if he sold, the Lions would turn suddenly into a Super Bowl Champion?

and Mr Ford has no input in those decisions.

He doesn't?
He hires the GM's.
He refused to fire Millen.
He let Millen fire the ONLY coach with a winning record since Ford bought the team 40 + years ago.
And I am sure he has input into the day to day decisions in other ways other than through his buddy Matt Millen or all those who preceeded Millen.
I would say the culture of losing goes right to the only common denominator, FORD.

Not Fords fault?? We could proubly go on for 10 pages on why ford is a poor owner. I could proubley do 10 pages myself and thats with me forgetting 1/2 of the bone headed moves they've done over the past 45 years.
But to keep it short and simple. Do an internet or google search on the following: Worst franchises in pro sports. and worst franchises in the NFL.
And remember when reading the articles that Ford has been the ONLY single owner for 45 years. Some of the franchises rated worst than the loins have only been around for 20, 10 or 5 years or have newer ownership,
I give most of them a pass as it takes a few years to establish a winning record.

Regarding selling the team... I would think that a new owner, any owner would have had them in a superbowl at LEAST once in the past 40+ years!!!

Maybe Ford will sell the Lions to Toyota, then the Lions will be #1.

MEL, you have stated your case very well. I hope that you don't mind me adding to it.......

Anyways, to answer greelhappys questions, I will do what I can to enlighten him on the Lions.

"Why is Ford getting so much flack for the Lions repeatedly lousy years?"

Here is your answer. He is the one that is responsible for everything that happens in that organization. It all starts at the top, there is not 1 winning team that does not have a committed owner.

"We draft high and usually get the cream of the crop. Don't you think the blame should fall on the players first. The coaching staff may not be the best but they are not stupid men. You can only get so much help with trades and free agents. Who determines these choices?"

The Lions draft high because they stink, and they wll continue down this road until Ford decides that this is enough. Or until Fords cash cow runs out.

The coaches that they have had over the last 30 years are mediocre at best. Besides Martz, and hes a coordinator, Fontes was the best that they have had. I am guessing that billy ford had mickey mouse ears on during the scott mitchell era as well. The stands were filled then too. (I know I was there).

The guy that determines the draft choices is the same guy that has run that team into the ground. How can the best back in history all of a sudden just decide to call it quits? Its not because he felt the franchise was not going anywhere, was it?

OK Iam done, time to go back under my rock.

,,,,,, you're kidding right???

Lemme explain something real quick,,,, Ford Sr. doesn't even know what a "lion" is anymore. Could you imagine if that stupid vote didn't go through for the new stadium??? This pathetic excuse for an NFL franchise would be loooooooooong gone,,, and they're not far from it now.

I gotta add something too,,,, do you remember when Tex Schram sold the Cowboys to Jerry Jones?? The Cowboys went 1-15 and some gawwwd awful record after that,,, they get 2 high draft picks(plus the H. Walker picks) and 2 years later they're a dynasty:dizzy:. Do you realize how good the loins could really be????? It's sickening,,,,, for the fans anyway(which I'm not). Some owner wanna win,, some don't.

I said I would P.O. everyone, and it seems I have accomplished that goal. Now let's assume Ford does sell, what then? Do you think new ownership will turn the lions around in what? 5 years? 10 years? I'm 70, I don't have that much time to wait. Go to some of my Lion reply's on other threads, you will find I am just as pi---- as everyone. EVERYONE has a opinion, good or bad, about the Lions. This is mine. THE DEFENSIVE FRONT FOUR. NEVER GIVING A CONSISTANT (OR NONE) PASS RUSH OR STOPPING THE RUN OF MEDIOCER RUNNERS. MAKING THE WHOLE DEFENSE LOOK BAD. THE OFFENSIVE LINE. NO HOLES FOR OUR BACKS TO RUN THROUGH. PASS BLOCKING IS ALMOST NON-EXISTANT. Somehow shore up those positions, and miraclously we are New England. A few years back I don't think the New England owner demanded the starting quaterback get hurt so we can put in Brady. You ask what is the one consistant over the years? Look at the defensive and offensive lines and you will find the answer. I do not believe my Ford comments belong in the comedy section, the LIONS DO. GO TAMPA BAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

greelhappy, I commend you for taking a stance and also rooting for Tampa this weekend. I am hoping that they win as well. I must say that the personnel on the o-line and d-line has changed several times over the years. The only constant thing is Ford. If the owner is not overly committed to winning, no matter how good the players are they will not be committed either.

I wonder how long it will be before Marinelli is put in a straight jacket?

Ford hasnt won squat in 45 years. Do you think he will win a superbowl in the next few years?:dizzy: His track record is one of the worst in sports!!!
I would think that any new owner would be able to provide a winner looooooong before ford can.

The D and O lines: He's had 45 stinking years to fix that, but every year with the exception of a few, its the same ol, lame ol loins.

As far as New England. I think the owner just demands that they win. Based on the last few years, i would have to say that he's a 50,000% better owner than ford. Think of what would have happened in Detroit if back when Kraft bought the Pats, if the loins where for sale and he bought the loins insted of the Pats!!!! Superbowls, Playoffs, MVP's, and all that goes with it, in Detroit!!!

Finally, When you do kick at least your grave marker can state " I was alive when the Loins won a Championship". The odds of that happening for me
is less than 50/50!!!

I still do not understand how you guys refuse to hold the players accountable for the years of the lousiest football I have ever seen,Murray missed the field goal that would have put the lions in the playoffs, not Ford. The Lions TEAM lost to a poor Bears team at home that would have put them in the playoffs, not Ford. If my memory were better or if I wanted to take the time to look up stats,(which I do not) there a probably many more cases where the Lions themselves caused all these lousy seasons. Just a couple of things off the top of my head. Longest field goal in the NFL, against the Lions. Shortest overtime in NFL history, against the Lions. First team to lose to an expansion team, the Lions. No doubt the only team to recieve 3 penalties during a punt.Lose a game because they can"t snap the ball back for the PAT. Jason Hanson missing a 19 yard field goal. There are many, many more screw up's and all of them are Ford's fault. Get real. Say what you want, this is my last reply on this subject.

 The players are playing to the best of their ability,,,,,, they don't wanna go out there and STINK,,,, they just do. They're just not good players. Hansen, Sanders and Moore,,, that's it. Those are the only players they've had with any "ability". Millen drafts all these players,, Marinelli has to put them on the field and tell them they're good,, they're not. Millen is not good either,,, yet Ford keeps him,,, whose fault is it then,, if not Fords. For the record,, I'm not PO'd either,,, I love it,, I hate the loins,, always have,, always will. I think it's hilarious.

Dont know what to tell ya. i havent seen them play in the last 4 weeks. and only 20 Minutes or so of the raiders and vikes games. i havent seen the bears play at all. So im about clueless.
The paper had the bears by 5 points i think so ill pick the bears by 3 pts.
24 to 21 or something to that effect.

This was the 1st game that the Lions dominated. It was great to see. The Lions were over 100 yards more offense then the Bears and had 4 INT's on defense. Dominate performance!!!
