Is there an actual wolf hunt in Canada---in Ontario? Anyone ever done this...or know what that runs or how they are hunted?

to my knowledge, wolf hunting is generally an "incidental" - that is - buy the tag so you can kill one if you see it while hunting something else.. i'm sure there are guides for everything - wolves included, i just don't think they are usually the goal of the hunt.

but, i could be wrong.. i've never been hunting in canada.

A buddy of mine has gone to Alberta to hunt wolves.
He got a real nice one a few years ago, all black coat.

I've heard of bear hunters in Ontario that are told by their guides to shoot a wolf if they see one. Worry about a tag later kind of thing.

That's what our guide said (Ontario)

I had info on a hunt in Ontario. I have lost the papers for it but I remember it was $1900 U.S. for one black bear and one wolf. So, there are places out there.

Wolf season in Ontario is from Sept. 15-Mar.31. You need a small game license and a wolf seal that you get at a MNR office, You are allowed two a year and you will have to fill out a questionnaire that is mailed to you. For non-residents the small game licence is $86.47 and the wolf seal is $233.64.
Then you will need an export permit and a CITES permit, which I think is $35. It can be a hassle at the US border also. I would check with US Customs before you go hunting.

back in the late 70's I went on a Moose Hunt in N. Ontario. A plane dropped us off with our tent for eight days. It was the first year that two hunters could only take one moose. We bought a wolf tag for a few buck extra. Well, my buddy shot the moose about a hour and a half after the plane dropped us off. We looked at each other and said "what are we going to do for the next eight days."

Fortunatly, the pike and walleye were biting and we caught fish for dinner every day and would toss the guts into the woods beyond the river where camp was set up. About the second day, wolves came at night and found the fish guts. First one wolf would howl and then the pack would respond until the whole pack was in the woods behind the tent. The little ones would come right into camp and we could hear them walking around and on one moonlit night could see the shadow through the tent. we slept with our guns and they returned each night. Needless to say, we slept with our rifles.

We would find the tracks around the tent and camp in the mornings. The large tracks were never found in camp, they were 50 yards away or more. Never saw or heard a wolf during daylight.

We hung the moose next to the tent and it was in easy reach if the wolves wanted to get it. They must have had plenty of food because they never touched the moose but came for the fish guts every night.

I've hunted Sharptail in northern Ontario 5 different years. I've seen huge wolf prints and looked into hunting them. (in the past 8 years)
1) This year theres a new wolf fee-tag deal, about $300 or something, small game lic. is $87 + tax.
2) Theyre guides who I found charge about $150 a day, with a fee up front.
3) They told me how they set you up to hunt them...they sit you in the bush with your rifle at a secret spot they have, they then drive around with a carcass dragging from a snowmoble, passing by you with a pack of wolves soon behind the snowmobile, you shoot one of your liking, I personally wanted to call one in myself.
4) If you find a cheap guide who has some spots/dens, let me know!

:lol::lol::yikes::yikes::yikes::dizzy::dizzy::lol:

It's hard to believe that that's allowed when they've had such a struggle with their bear hunting. I'd love to see that entire scenario take place. The probably have the NEW guy drive the sled.
