I have a friend looking for a left-handed youth model shotgun for his son. He is looking for either a pump or semi-auto. I have done some searching and can't find any youth model gund made for lefties?
Thanks!

I got my daughter a 20 ga. Browning BPS Micro. Not cheap but a gun she'll use for life.

Thanks for the link. I assume the "Micro" = "Youth"? I will pass this on to my friend. How close is the MSRP to the actual price? I also saw that they have a $100 rebate. I will check to see if this gun qualifies.

It's not a youth per say but has scaled down dimensions so it works well for kids or women. It's a little small for me at 6'2" but I've used it on the skeet field several times and thought about stealing it to hunt grouse:lol: I don't remember what I paid for it.

You could get a REM 870 Express Youth. The safety is easily reversed from RH to LH. And then an adult buttstock installed when the kid grows up. Less than 200 bucks on sale usually.
Hard to beat the 870 as a starter gun.

I am not a lefty, so I have no idea if it matters... but doesn't a true lefty gun eject the shells from the left side of the gun? I would think that the shell ejecting past your face (if shooting left handed and shell ejecting from right of gun) could be a problem.
I do agree that the 870 Express is a great starter gun. I have one that I use as my beater gun for turkey hunting, as I don't mind laying it on the ground as much, even if it's wet. Pretty good deals on their combos too, if someone needs a slug barrel.
I am not sure how the shells eject from the Mossberg.
I recommended and over & under, but he wants something that can be used for deer hunting too.
Keep the suggestions coming.

mossburg Bantam is a pretty good starter gun and comes with 2 different pads for when the youth gets a little longer in the arm. As long as the youngster doesn't mind the empty flying past there face while cycling it should be a pretty good deal. Cheapest combo on the market. Should last forever with the camo synthetic stocks....

I'm a left handed shooter who shoots a right handed Beretta Xtrema semi-auto. I never even notice the shells ejecting, and I've never been hit with one. As far as youth guns go, my daughter shoots a Charles Daly 20ga. semi-auto, and loves it. I've used it a little on the range and, although it's too small for me, it does handle very nicely. The price is right, too, at around $400.

Here you go. Don't let the MSRP scare you. You should be able to find this gun for 600.00 or so all day.

I'm a lefty and have been shooting right handed 1100's most of my life. You never notice the shells ejecting and I prefer a right handed safety for hunting. It's actually faster to pop the safety off from the oposite side of the trigger. Also, a 20 gauge semi-auto 1100 has almost no recoil.

I'm a lefty and don't like messing with the safety the wrong way. . .I would either go with a true left handed gun, or switch the safety, or go with a BPS or Mossberg with a thumb tang safety. I like the thumb safety with autos so they are the same as my double guns. I have never noticed the shells going acrossed my face.
When I was looking into getting my wife a gun, I figured the youth models of Remington/Mossberg pumps were the way to go. Then I found a Beretta 3901 Statesman 20 gauge on clearance for $499, $454 after credit card sign up, plus $50 back in scorecard points. It shouldered better for her and was much lighter, and for about $150 more for a Beretta auto than a Rem Express pump, it was a no brainer.

If your looking for a low cost gun check out the Mossberg pump youth combo in 20ga. Has the thumb safety and comes with the rifled slug barrel. Very resonably priced....my 10 yr old shot his first turkey with it this spring...no problem shooting it left handed!!

As an SCTP coach, if all my kids showed up with this gun, my job would be easy!
The other recomendations are good, and I have seen them all, some with success. But if your looking for the best advice for a younger shooter, this is my advice.

My daughter shoots left handed and I got her a 20 ga. BPS Micro. It's a sweet little gun. I steal it to shoot skeet once in a while.
