who's meat is it? if its the freinds meat then wouldn't it be ok to charge him for the processing of the meat? but if you are selling him your own meat then there might be a problem.

Heck you must be really good friends if you want to know how much to charge him
you can charge to make the jerky however you cannot "sell" jerky or any venison

NO its his deer, hes giving me the meat to make him jerky, I brine/season/smoke and wanted to know how much is fair to charge, it takes 2-3 hours to smoke 2LBS or so after the 24 brine period...

His deer, now that's an entirely different story........
Depends on how good a friend he is and how much time you put into making it................bottom line is you probably won't ever re-coup all your costs and still have a friend.........
Years ago when I used to make it I got a 12 pk of beer for about 5 lb's but I wasn't trying to get rich and was just doing it as a favor...

I have seen it cost 7.00 per pound weighing the whole quarter before boning. The other option is to smoke it for him and you take half of the finished product.

First of all I would personally go $4 plus supplies... but my question, what do you use for brine? What is your process.. Looking to try something new this year..

Well it all depends. If he's a good friend, I'd charge him 20/pound.
I would tell him this and see how much he whines, then lower the price to cover the supplies/spices ect. As far as making money off my friends, it's a not. Just think how quickly they'll remember the venison when you need help with the deck, drywall, transmission ect. Plus how much of it would you be eating at his party or hunt camp...:D

^^very true.... as for a brine I make my own took all summer to come up with the right combo, I would try Shore Lunch brand jerky seasoning kit you can get it at Meijer I like the cajiun one its not to spice its just right and VERY GOOD.:corkysm55
If he's a good friend, I'd charge him 20/pound. The going rate at the jerky shops is 25/35.
