Is the waterfowl season the same as other seasons in that they open on the same date every year? If so then 69 day till goose opener!

On the DNR webpage all goose seasons open on the 17th of Sept not the 1st. That was the reason for my post does opening day fall on the same date every year like other seasons?

Ok. The early season opens on the first of September. Last season the regular season opened on that date. The answer is the seasons are not set yet. The Feds and our MDNR have to have a meeting. We submit 3 proposals and the Feds get to ok one of them. It will be set this month. There is a post on this site on the subject. Linda did a fine job of giving us all the info she knows at this time.

It was for 2001 and I can not remember if the state has to get the feds to approve a resident goose season or if the states can call it themselves. I think the state can call it but I am not sure.

I'm pretty sure that the Feds have to give the go-ahead for the early resident goose season, again, a framework of time, and a bag limit, if the feds say no early season, we get no early season, but that's sure not going to happen for a while, or until they figure out how to get the geese out of town...the state sets the dates, and can lower the bag limit if they like.

The FWS was proposing handing the resident goose population to state wildlife management. The first release was March 4th,
