ok guys, think I am getting close to be all set. My second year trapping and putting it all together so I am prepped for this year. Here is my checklist and the types of trapping I will be doing. I know I am gonna have to pick up a few more things, but this is what I have so far. Please throw suggestions my way and possibly an explanation why I may need the suggested item. Thanx in advance.....Dean

Secondary trapping will be fox/yotes.

1 dozen 1 3/4 Sleepy Creek Coilspring with Offset Jaws

This is redundant but it just is THAT important so I will say it again. Get some double stake swivels or some chain links so that you can double stake all traps. a single rerod stake will not hold too many coyotes, even if its 643 feet long:).

A good sturdy handled trowel is a land trappers best friend.

as far as water trapping my knowledge is limited to mostly beaver, there are others with more experience and better input

My bad, I forgot to mention that I have swiveled double stakes for the canines.

Dean,

You say that you want to water trap mink, coon, and rats. Those #1's are good for rats under the ice, but there are much better traps for open water season. Either a #11 double long spring (same as you #1's but with 2 springs), or a #1 1/2 coilspring. During convention season the Duke #1 1/2 coilsprings can be had less then $50/dozen. The #11's are more expensive unless you find a good deal on some used ones.

In respect to land trapping....

What are you going to sift your dirt with? What about pan covers or underfills?

OK, here is what I am gonna pick up.

Handled trowel.
Sifter
Gonna use crumpled wax/freezer paper for pan covers.

I have an axe and wire cutters and 11 ga wire.

I may pick up a few more traps, not sure yet. If I do, will probably be the 1 1/2 Coilsprings like you susggested Joe.

Gonna try and pick up a few cheap buckets too, want to keep dogs out of the 160's....will fasten those up out of a dogs reach. Will probably have a few bucket sets on State Land, sees a lot of foot traffic.

Hey Joe, what do you think about those #1 double jaws for mink and coon???? I will be using drowner cables with locks. I did use my #1 Longsprings in the open water last year and did fairly well. Lot of misses and toe nails, found out I was not leaving enough water over the pan as well as not having adjusted the traps adjusted properly.

Ok got some more stuff

A new fleshing beam....something more suitable for larger critters than the rat beam I have
A new gambrel
A 4 ft catch pole
a good fur comb
a sifter
a trowel
tail splitter
tail tool

You guys think of anything else I can grab before I start to set on Nov 1st?
