Thats Childs play compared to my response on this subject from your or Rick... Just figured I would ask, seeing that im going up to where we might get into some. And it just happend, that I was talking with a guy that says he would like some Sheeps, with a response of "Poor Mans Lobster". Hey, to each his own.....If a man likes Sheeps, Ill give him Sheeps.......Just as long as he doesnt waste-em.......

Chris - we haven't caught too many junk fish up there at all. 1 sheep in 4-5 nights. Nothing compared to the DR. Not exactly sure why and writing this will probably jinx me for tonight. What time you heading north?

I read somewhere that thier scales come real easy and they will plug up the drain in your livewell.

"Poor Man's Lobster" is one use for those fish. I have been thinking that they might also make a good "Bacon Roll-up".

If you have no bait..cut up a sheepie into bite sized cut bait. They will eat it.

Here is a pic of Mushy1 headed out on a Sheephead excursion with plenty of fresh bait. Notice that an experienced angler will get the scent of the bait on his skin. I firmly believe that with this kind of preparation, he will fill the boat with those prized silver fish. Go get em Mushy!!!! :D

Hey Mushy, if you really want to hone your skills on some of Michigan’s best eating game fish, roll up a few thousand dough balls and you could come home with a truckload of great eating!!! :p ;)

I just read this post.... I must say.... that the fresh water drum is one of the finest fish for chowder....
if gutted and iced quickly... it is a excellent fish chowder option...
to those who fish for those slimmy musky... don't reply... I won't even allow that fish to touch my boat... slit and git...

Well Johnny, we agree on many things but not this one. I wouldn't feed that to my dog. My last Lab loved fish but turned his nose at Sheeps. Tell poor Pilsner that I have some Walleye and Perch for him! :p

If you like catching fresh water drum wether to eat or for sport come down to the st clair river say in mid to late June. You can catch as many as you want. They are quite large with an average size of about 4-6lbs.

I keep NO FISH.... unless the month has a "R".... sounds stupid but I like cold water fish... the colder the water the better the fish....
but back to the drum...
I like them because it is easy to boil the oil out of them and the fish is very firm for a chowder...
