launched about 8pm at black river, made my way past bridge up to green can. dropped in and right away eater eye, dropped right back in, as i hit bottom BANG, salmon, peeling wire, took almost 50 feet of line before changing direction out to the right where i could pull some wire back in then changed direction again and took more line till finally he broke the hook. took till just after 10pm to limit, would of been sooner if i would of changed hooks on my rapala's but i just got em today and had no time. lost many on the way up and at boat, stayed playing catch and release till about midnight, but the bite seemed to of stopped at 11pm. almost all fish taken on dropoff between 30 and 40 FOW but couple came in 25 FOW.hot color was vampire, vampire, vampire. had one on and keep changing other colors and no hits, ended up running triple vampire, nothing on kicker, most on #7's, with a few big ones on #9's. they were hitting hard, i made the mistake on fishing with 15/30 for leaders, should of fished with 20/40 or at least put bungies on all leaders. i made mostly short passes, about 50 yards below green can, went out till almost 40 fow and cut back in till i hit about 28 fow then cut out(most of the time). this weekend should be just as good for those planing on fishing up there. i will post a pic in morning, right now they are buried in ice.

hey brett, tell the story of the sailboat playing bumper boats last night.

When we were coming back in last night there was a sailboat going down the black river without any lights on and at a high rate of speed for a no wake zone. My first though was that someone was stealing it. But next they pull a u-turn :dizzy: in the river. now picture this a 24ft sailboat making a u-turn in the black river. not a lot of room for that. then they sound there horn and go under the bridge going upstream. this is the last bridge before the dnr launch. I have my boat at the dock by now and they come right up in front of the docks. They attempt another u-turn and run into a large pole that is protecting a white boat house directly across form the launch. now the boat bounces off the pole and without the motor ever changing gear or rpm it continues into the boat house and gets stuck underneath it. one guy comes out onto the bow and pushes the boat down so that they can get unstuck. Freed they head back down stream and sound there horn to get back under the bridge. the bridge never opened, but the keel on sailboats is very deep and they got to close to the shore and ran it aground. they are trying to get it unstuck when the police show up. The "Captain" of the boat has the outboard screaming trying to get it unstuck. and the cop is yelling at him. "Turn it off dumb a**" then a female cop tells them to stay right where they are. next 3 coast guardsmen show up in a minivan. they go down to take a look at the situation. now none of the coasties are going to get wet and neither are the cops. so I guess that they were waiting for a coast guard boat to come down. the coasties said that the two guys on the boat were friends of the owner, and that the owner was on his way down! who would think about taking out there buddy's sailboat and crashing into crap with it?

I got a letter from the dnr today regarding the tagged fish. here is the letter.
Thank you for reporting capture of a walleye with tag 7554. This fish was tagged as part of a walleye population study being conducted by the Michigan Departmant of Natural Resources on the Saginaw River system, Saginaw Bay, and Lake Huron.
Michigan fisheries personnel tagged your fish on 04/07/2005 at Dow Dam on the Tittabawassee River. It was an 22 inch male when tagged. You caught it 910 days after its release.
The information that you have graciously provided will improve our understanding of walleye movement patterns and characteristics of their population such as survival and growth rates. Information from this project will be used to assess the status of walleye in Lake Huron and the Lower Great Lakes.
Your cooperation with this important walleye assessment program is greatly appreciated.

Hey TimEye, (got it right this time), if possible could you show a pic of a vampire? I have been to Gander and the bait shop in Lexington, and neither place has them. I do not even know what they look like. Your reports are still driving me crazy. Way to go.

Thanks for the pic Houghton Laker. Do those red hooks come with the lure or did you put them on? And Joel, I'll probably take a ride to your place today and pick up a couple. Thanks.

Kevin has a habit of replacing the factory hooks with aftermarket hooks.
He probably spends more money on just the hooks than most guys spend on lures.
