I was fishing on the Pine River today (you know if you read my other post) and I was floored by all the slobs renting rafts. When I go fishing, I always carry a plastic garbage bag with me in case I catch any fish that i want to bring home. Good thing I had it in my vest because I filled it with trash that people were dumping out of their boats. The bag was so full I could barely tie it. I picked up plastic water bottles, lots of zip loc bags, cigarete boxes and $7.10 in beer cans, plus numerous other things. I am almost sick to my stomach just thinking about it.

I think the DNR needs to do something about it, but what? Do they charge the rental companies a garbage fee? Do they ban these companies from certain rivers, so the rivers being used can be better policed?

Anyone have any ideas?

Tom

River Slobs , I think they are an exotic non-game animal with an open season, so you can shoot or foul hook as many as you can carry but you must bring them in to the nearest DNR office to regester them. Thats the hard part-catching one.

We used to take 2 or 3 one day canoe trips on the Au Sable every summer. About 1 mile before we'd stop for lunch we'd walk the canoe and pick up trash, bottles, cans, etc. and put them in garbage bags at our lunch stop. We'd do the same thing about 1 mile before our pull out spot. Never took long to fill a couple of canoes. At least that part of the river stayed clean for a day or 2.

I wonder if these folks illeagally used an ATV to get their canoe in the water? :D
