Got this packet in the mail about joining the North American Fishing Club. $1 a month. Then they supposedly send you stuff to try out through out the year. You get to keep it so long as you right a report as to likes and dislikes.
Anybody else hear of this? Not even sure how I got the packet.

It's the same as the North American Hunting Club, the Handyman Club etc. I'm a life member of the NAHC and I get that crap all the time from them. Then they send you stuff (books etc.) without asking and, if you don't want it - have to mail it back. Been a member since 1994 and never - I mean never - had anything to field test. Take my advice? Discard in the plastic receptacle. Well, that's my two pennies worth anyway.

well, i joined it for a year, they keep buging me to be a life member, sent books that i had to send back, kept one nice one about walleye fishing. as for the free field test stuff, i have gotten hooks, those little glow sticks for rod tips, and some other little stuff. i have not been a member for maybe 2 years and just recently they sent me a pack of 10 #4 hooks.

My wife made me a life member and i get a magazine from them once every 3 months or so. NEVER field tested anything, i did get a decent fishing pole in the mail with my name on it but it broke after a few fish. Oh and dont think the calenders are complimentary! Read the fine print for sure.

I get those from time to time. I keep the fish magnets for the fridge or whatever else may have some use and discard the rest.
The only thing I can figure is that I subscribed to In Fisherman magazine and they sold my info to them.

I have been a member for 8 years, 4 of them as a life member. I think it is great! The magazine is just so-so, but it is free for life now. As a life member, you don't receive ALL of the free stuff until you are paid in full. Now, most of the free stuff is again, so-so, but the rod/reel combo I received is really nice...equivelant to a IM-6 graphite, just doesn't say it. A soft rod case too. As far as feild testing, I have tested approx. 15 items, 4 this year alone. Most are small, inexpensive lures or accessories, but free is free. Some have been quite nice. 2 yrs ago, a decent multi-tool from Coast Cutlery valued at $45.00. I would liken it to a $25.00-$30.00 tool. I am currently evaluating a boat seat storage system valued at $99.00 and I like it very much. And if that is not enough, I have just received 6 Salmon spoons made of titanium, here in Michigan. I too have received many pakages of small hooks and many various plastic lures to test, including Gulp! lures which is all I use now, don't ever need live bait again. One of the coolest things was a small little bottle of multi-purpose sporting goods lubricant called fish-pro joe, Great, slipery stuff! This spring, I won one of their monthly give-a-ways, a 266 piece Northland Tackel package. Mostly jigs and bodies, but worms, hooks weights and a few harnesses and spinnerbaits. Every month, they tell you how many test items the send out(1000's) and many multi hundred $ things like kayaks, Minn Kota motors/chargers and other very nice things. The books that they send to you, you can opt-out with a single phone call and thats that. The first book is free and it was a great book on general Walleye fishing.
The club may not be for everyone, but it certainly isn't bad

Must be a salesman for the club. It's junk. They send you small, very inexpensive crap and pull they old, "if you don't want it just mail it back" routine with the items you will end up paying for. SCAMMERS!

I was a member also and never recieved anything to field test, unless you count the parckage of hooks they sent with my membership packet, along with a sticker and patch.

What??
A salesman for the club? Do they have those? Man, give an honest opinon of something and people without a clue (this is selfevident) try to bash you. I have received a FEW good products to test and a BUNCH of small, inexpensive stuff too (I thought that I said that). I did win the Northland tackle package, but hey, you MUST know more than me about that!
You have to fill out the product test forms to receive "stuff". The free hooks go perfectly on a spinner harness too, so who's complaining. In addition, there is their website, great people who help each other with info, ideas and merchandise if needed. Free classifides, regional member meets (just had the 7th annual U.P. meet), just to name a few more perks. As for things that you have to send back, like I said before, you can opt-out. I opted out once...no more stuff to send back(pre-paid shipper for the second book was included too). The test products you keep, good or bad. Free! Even if they ONLY send "small, very inexpensive crap", its FREE, throw it away ,give it away if you don't like it. For the same cost of any other outdoor magazine, you get the free stuff and all of the other benifits. I have not had to pay for ANYTHING except the dues, which can be likened to a subscription to any other magazine.

Chill froggey:D Glad you're getting something out of the NAFC, my comments were in jest. I was a member for 3 years and I was VERY disappointed. To me, the mag was garbage and the "free crap" was not worth the dues. I had opted out once and more stuff came, so I guess I just have bad luck. I have heard from others that they too were disappointed in the club.
