Anyone know the conditions of the crops in the FP State Game Area? Last year was dismal to say the least!

Buddy at work belongs to the Fish Point Association, said the crops were doing good, but was afraid that if we didn't get rain soon that they could be hurt. This rain today should help. :)

I scouted the area the weekend before July 4th and the crops in our fields were at least 10 days behind that of the farmers crops.
When you first go down ringle road the crops look great. The corn was almost knee high then. But when I got to the hunting fields the corn was very small. Definetly planted much later than the farmers crops. I dont have my map with me but the first set of fields going down ringle on the right (before you get to hq) I know that the single hunters can hunt in these fields but it didnt even look like corn was planted then. It looked like some other crop like beans or something was growing instead. The water in the ditches looked good then. I just hope that after 3 weeks things caught up, but with this drought I sure hope we dont have a repeater of last year. I just wish the farmers would take care of our crops like they do theirs. They have to be getting good money for this. Last year their crops were fine as our crops sucked! Someone needs to hold them accountable.

The fields up there look substantially better than last year. Our association(Fish Point Wildlife Association) contributed a chunk of money this year to bring the seed/acre ratio up to an acceptable level. We also held several meetings with the DNR at both the local and state levels prior to planting this year to ensure that the farmers commited to plant our crops on state land at the same time as their crops(within reason). If you or anyone is interested, there is a work day to clean up and make some improvments up there this Saturday, August 10th. Meet at the DNR Check Station. Also, you can visit our website( www.fishpoint-mi.com ) and check out pictures from last weekends Banding project, as well as other projects(Blind renovation and trail cleanup, etc..) from the past.
