I might as well state the bad days along with the good days.

Went out wading my favorite stretch of the river above Ann Arbor on Tuesday. I have NEVER seen the water as low and clear as it was 3 days a go. I seen bottom in places I never seen before.
I'm a crawler bottom bouncer, using a single #6 aberdeen hook and 6 lb test. Ya gotta keep the crawler rolling downstream, and you really couldn't do it. The only way was to get below the hole a reel it down. Yet they were biting real steady, I'm ashamed to admit how many crawlers I went through, and how many fish I ended up with due to line shy short strikes.
I caught what I would say was 2 acceptable smallies, another 6 or so putzs, and another 6-8 assortment of sucker/rock bass/bluegill for 4 1/2 hours of fishing.

Well, my son and I got out today figuring that after all the rain we had to river would be back to normal with the flow being up and the coloration being slightly off color. It was pretty much normal on both counts, and the fishing was somewhat better.
We did the usual stroll down river, hitting different holes and trying a couple of different spot. We ended up with between the two of us, 15 smallies, 10 gills, and 6 real nice white suckers. Yeah I know it's a sucker but I really don't mind the fight of a honked off white sucker.
This was probably the last time for the year for the Huron river for me. I had a great time fishing with my older son even if I had to listen to him thinking he invented fishing the river with an ultra light strung with 4lb. Well duh!!! kid, we did that 20 years a go, but I didn't want to burst his bubble....lol;)

About 6 of those smallies were this size. Gawd I look bad with 3 hours sleep..lol

October and november usualy bring some catches of steelies an occasional salmon but the warm weather and low water levels are hurting this and other lower michigan streams.Nice catch on the smallies and thanx for sharing your report.
